I was able to try two drugstore brand mascaras today. I usually don’tΒ make a big fuss out of this but since I had to try them for reviews I figured I’d share my thoughts. I opted to try them one on each eye to see the difference. I have tried both brands various mascaras over the years but these two were new to me. The two products I tried were the followingΒ CoverGirl Flourish byΒ Lash BlastΒ andΒ Maybelline The Falsies.

The Mascaras

CoverGirl Flourish byΒ Lash Blast

This latest Lash Blast product includes Coconut, Avocado, and Papaya oils. These added ingredientsΒ are said to condition your lashes while helping give them volume without the clumps. I purchased this one for a review I needed to post via influenster.com

The wand is slender and has a taperedΒ style to it.Β  It remindedΒ me of a previous CoverGirl product that I used a while back.Β  It was very similar in it’s design to the Peacock Flare mascara. The way the wand is designed it seems a bit flimsy to me anyway. The brush ends seemed to be a bit sort but again that’s my opinion. it’s lightweight and glides well over your lashes.

Maybelline The Falsies

Well, I hadn’t used this productΒ before. I had used other MaybellineΒ mascaras but not this particular one. I can say from the package it gives you a lot of info about how it’s is going to volumize your lashes. The package pretty much gives you the impression that if you use this product you won’t need to use fake lashes. This mascara has Kera-fiber which coats your lashes to help them look more volumized. This product was a free sample. I requested it via a So Post request. An exchange was requiredΒ in return for the free sample.

The wand is wide and has a curved applicator. Maybelline’sΒ packaging uses the term spoon side for the shape of the curve. I noticed that the brush applicator were a nice variety of sizes.

The Test

Right Eye CoverGirl Mascara

So as you can see here’s a look at my closed right eye without mascara.

I applied the mascara like I usually would. I found that it did give my lashes some flare but it seems to be subtle. Nothing too overwhelming or volumizing.

You can see the flare effect better with my eye closed. it does coat your lashes well and seemed not to smudge. I will say if you add coats it may add a more dramatic effect.

Left Eye MaybellineΒ Mascara

Once again here’s a photo os my left eye sans mascara

I found that curved wand caused me a bit of an issue. I think I ended up with more mascara on my face the on my lashes.

As you can see I didn’t find any falsies effect with this product. It seemed to clump my lashes instead of volumizing them.

This photo shows how I had some smudges of mascara on my lid and how my lashes looked a bit clumpy. I will also admit the curving of the wand wasn’t my favorite feature. I also poked myself in the eye as well.

Final Thoughts

Well, all in all, we can agree that mascaras vary greatly and they may not always live up to the claims on the packages. That’s a give. What I did learn was thatΒ CoverGirl Flourish byΒ Lash BlastΒ andΒ Maybelline The FalsiesΒ may work for someone.I found that the Flourish mascara was okay. It gave my eyes a subtle flare with not being too high drama. That would be great for a day-to-day look or for something minimalist look. The Flourish mascara does separate your lashes without clumping. The Maybelline mascara just seemed to clump my lashes and didn’t really volumize. Again I might have used the wrong technique when applying this product.Β  It does, however, cover your lashes well and gives them a color boost in terms of the shade you pick. I also found that it was a bit messy.Β Now in terms of removal, both products fared the same. They were easy to remove without staining your lids or under your eyes.

Let me know what your thoughts are on the topic. Have you tried either of these mascaras before? I’d love to read your comments below.
