A few years ago I noticed that many of the name brand deodorants weren’t working as well as they once were for me. I’d also had a few that gave me some skin issues as well. Since I’d noticed that I opted to try a few natural brands. Well, we all know brands such as Tom’s   but I was surprised to find many others out there.

I happened to be cleaning my bathroom cabinet and found a number of natural deodorants. All the products I’ve purchased are aluminum free. Many have baking soda as one of the active ingredients. There’s the thing sometimes baking soda and I don’t get along. I had to stop using Tom’s because a few of them didn’t work well with my body chemistry. Let’s just say by the end of the day I didn’t even want to be near me. Again this may have had to do with other factors as well. But I’d even tried the unscented formula and had the same result.

Products I’ve tried

Every Man Jack

I’d heard that men’s deodorant may work better for some women. Well, I happened to order this one from Walgreens because it wasn’t offered at my local store. I purchased the Signature Mint scent. I’ve found it suited my needs. I can’t really say it works as well as traditional deodorants or antiperspirants. Then again you may need to adjust to the product as well. But it fit my needs. The mint scent was nice. The overall application was smooth as well. I also liked that since it didn’t have aluminum in it i didn’t have any discoloration of my skin. The color is a standard stick deodorant white or cream.

Schmidt’s

This was another product I tried out. Like Tom’s, it worked so-so for me. But I had a bit of a reaction with the baking soda. It works but the baking soda in it didn’t blend well with my body chemistry. I also found it to be a bit on the rough side. So you had to warm against your skin prior to applying it. this product is a tan to a cream color.

Zion Health

Now this zion Health product doesn’t have baking soda in it. This product has natural clay and essential oils. I happened to pick this one up just out of curiosity. I also try to switch out deodorants every few weeks. I wasn’t sure what White Pine smelled like but I bought it anyway. it’s an interesting product. It applies well and smoothly. It’s tan in color due to the clay. I liked it because of its application and feel on the skin. The only con I had was that the White Pine scent didn’t blend well with my chemistry. I also notice as it warmed it felt moist on my skin.

Native

This product was a free sample from Pinchme . This natural deodorant has baking soda in it but it also has Coconut oil as well. It’s also tan in color. It applies well and does leave your skin soft. I can say since this scent is coconut & vanilla it’s sort of tropical. They have a number of scents to choose from if this particular one isn’t for you. I’ve used the product for a few days and liked it. If you don’t mind smelling of coconut. I didn’t have any real adverse reactions. Then again I didn’t test this out during high activity or stressful times. I can see it fitting my needs for my day to day use.

Stinkbug Naturals

This was another recent buy. I happened to pick up the Tangerine Spice scent. Like Native Stinkbug has baking soda with Coconut oil. It does smell like tangerine. I found it worked well for the handful of times I’ve used it. Overall it seems to do its job. I can say that the scent does linger for a little while. Like many of the other products I’d shared above this one is sold in a variety of scents. I liked that it glides on smoothly and about two swipes are enough. It states that on the container. This deodorant is a cream color.

What’s the Verdict?

After trying all of these products. I found pros and cons with them as i mentioned in the post. But all i can say is like with most things finding a natural deodorant that works for you is trial and error. I can say that if you can find small samples like the Native product it’s cost effective. You don’t feel like your wasting a large size product. That being said there are other variants as well. Such as your general activity level along with how much you sweat. Since everyone has different needs some brands may not be for everyone. I also noticed that the overall application factor matters too.No one wants a deodorant that is rock hard and rough on your skin. You also don’t want that becomes too fluid when warmed by body heat. We go back to it’s a trial and error process.

Personally, I know I’m sticking with four of the products I shared. I’ll finish the Every Man Jack. I liked the overall effectiveness of this brand. It’s also the one that closely resembles many white stick products. The others fit my needs as well. But I think I will have to give up on Schmidt’s. If i come across it in a scent I may try it again. For now, I think I’ll stick with the other four products.

Have you tried a natural deodorant? If so I’d love to read your thoughts on the subject.
