Okay, this should be common sense but please don’t send your Paypal, Cashapp, or other peer-to-peer payment info to strangers.

Yes, I know there are valid social media giveaways via Twitter where people have been gifted cash from celebrities to select peer-to-peer payment options. I know Cashapp had a giveaway during the month of December.

You’re probably thinking what is she talking about? I’ll explain below.

what I’m talking about

A few days ago I had a very random request via Instagram. As we know this isn’t anything new for me. But this topic was a bit out of the norm.

I had some random account that had a photo of a young woman who claims to be named Kathyana.

I don’t know Kathyana nor do I wish to. But what did get me was the DM content.

the message text

Dm your cashapp tag or zelle PayPal Venmo for $10,000 giveaway immediately first 10 people to say hi

direct message from Kathyana
Instagram message text from Kathyana.

yeah it’s a scam

It’s gotta be a scam who in their right mind sends a random person a DM requesting this info for a large cash prize. Also, common sense would raise a red flag.

Another thing that I didn’t get was when I checked Kathyana’s profile it’s set to private with very little information. When I mean very little it’s a name and two emoji icons. So that pretty much means this could be a fake or scammer account.

Another thing is the way the DM was worded who would enter you in a giveaway for $10,000 just for your payment info or to say Hi.

You can report these types of requests and block the account if you feel the need to. Also, you can report the profile for scam or fraud as well.

peer-to-peer payment scams are big

The peer-to-peer payment scams are really big right now. I’ve seen countless Zelle scams being shared via news outlets lately.

Here are a few links you may want to check out:

If you are sent a text message claiming to be from a peer-to-peer payment or even your bank always check with them first. Never click on any links Always go directly to the source to verify the requests that the text requests. Or even just to log in to your account to check for any notices.

If you suspect a scam you can report them to the peer-to-peer payment as well.

Zelle

PayPal

Venmo

Cashapp

Please beware of this scam and share the info with others.
