I had a text message over the weekend. It was sent at nearly 4 a.m.. I didn’t see it until later in the morning. What kind of text was it you may be asking? Well, it was a package scam text.
The package scam text isn’t new but it is making the rounds again.
What’s the package scam?
The scam has a few different variations. Some may be a text, email, or possibly a phone call. The sender claims your package or parcel isn’t deliverable followed by an excuse.
Some may say that they want to confirm your address. Another was that you needed to pay a delivery fee.
The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has a concise article from 2022 explaining the scam.
The text I was sent
The sender
This text was sent from an email address. I assume it’s a computer-generated one because the last time I checked UPS doesn’t have a warehouseups.site email address.
The email was the following: 6irwsop4yyctttpp9fws@warehouseups.site
most UPS emails are sent from their business notification email address which is mcinfo@ups.com.
The text message
The text message was a single link with no further information.
Other text I’ve seen in the past may state that the package isn’t deliverable because an address needs to be confirmed or some other nonsense.
What kind of scam is this?
This looks like a phishing scam because the URL may give it away. it Includes a $ (dollar sign).

I can only assume the URL would take you to a link to verify information possibly payment information.
Don’t fall for these text messages
If you haven’t ordered anything lately or have a package arriving in general don’t follow up with these text messages.
Never give out your personal information be it name, address or financial info.
Always check with the stated sender such as UPS, FedEx, UPS, or even DHL if you are expecting a package.
Remember when in doubt you can always do an online search if you suspect it’s a scam.
