In 2022 I bought some monofilament thread for some craft ideas I had in mind. Well, they have come in handy for so many uses.
Monofilament thread can be sold in different weights and lengths as well as colors.
what is monofilament cord or thread?
Monofilament can have different names it may be a cord or a thread depending on the manufacturer or even the type of product.
Merriam-Webster has a definition of what Monofilament is.
The term cord can be used when dealing with monofilament for jewelry or crafts. The term thread may be used when talking about sewing or even fishing lines.
It’s sold in different container styles
Monofilament is sold in different sizes and types of containers. Some are sold in spools like thread and others are sold in more circular spools.
I purchased two styles and the traditional style spool product was marketed for crafts or decor use such as stringing garlands or holding holiday decor. Or using it for parties. It could also be used for crafts.
The circular spool of monofilament was also marketed for crafts but also jewelry making.
it’s sold in different thicknesses
Depending on your needs you may need to see which thickness of monofilament you will need. if you are doing a craft project at times a thinner cord or thread is needed.
If you are trying to use this with beads (glass, acrylic, etc.) always make sure your bead is larger than the monofilament thread. If not it may cause issues when trying to thread them. If the cord or thread is too thick it may be hard to work with.
I would like to note that some thicker monofilament may be harder to tie in a knot if you are using it to hang decor or for craft projects.
Some may also have a tendency to twist or want to curl so you may have to weigh it down before using it to straighten it out.
Depending on the thread or cord it may list up to how many pounds or Kilos it can hold.
I used the Anezus thread to string some glass beads and added a bell at the end. I will say that if you try this use larger mm-sized beads for easier threading.
It comes in different colors
Some brands may sell monofilament in clear, gray, or smoke. Others may have brightly colored cords. Some colored cording may be referred to as fishing lines or used for sewing.
Multiple uses
I found that monofilament thread or cord works great for crafts. it also worked well for sewing a few holes closed that I had in a reusable grocery bag. The seam had split and I mended the hole. It looked good because it’s clear so you don’t notice much of the stitching.
You can also use them for holiday decor or to hang a wreath because it’s clear it’s more aesthetically pleasing.
This would also be great to use if you are having a party to hang balloons or even make a small balloon arch.
