I was selected to try a deodorant from Tom’s of Maine in January. This deodorant was new to me. I’d tried other Tom’s of Main products, especially deodorant. The product is aluminum-free.

To be honest I haven’t had the best results with aluminum-free deodorants.

You can check out the post below to find out more.

Natural Deodorants: They aren’t all the same

The product

This deodorant is aluminum-free. It was the scent of cucumber aloe. it’s also free of artificial fragrances, baking soda and Parabens.

I was a bit wary of this product at first because I wasn’t sure if the scent was going to be too strong or worse yet I’d smell awful at the end of the day.

The container is a traditional plastic container with a twist-wheel base.

The deodorant comes with a plastic protector under the cap. it can be removed easily by twisting the base to raise the product.

It has a plastic protector.

The deodorant is a gel stick. I wasn’t expecting that. I thought it was going to be a traditional white stick.

It’s a gel solid stick.

I’ve had some pros and cons with gel stick deodorants in the past but figured this one might be better. At least I didn’t have to deal with white marks on my clothes.

I will add that the scent was light and very airy as soon as I removed the product protector. It smelled of aloe with light hints of cucumber.

How well did the product work?

Like I mentioned before I haven’t had the best of luck with aluminum-free deodorants. Some have left me smelling like a hot fruit salad at the end of the day. While others didn’t even keep wetness at bay.

I’ll be honest and say that I didn’t have high hopes for this product. Then to top it all off I had less than a week to try it out before a review was required. So I can say this much during the first few tries I liked that it went on smoothly. I didn’t have any underarm irritation or skin issues.

I liked that the scent was light and airy. It mellowed quickly which wasn’t a big deal. The gel quality was smooth and removed me of a solid white stick. You didn’t have to slather it on. It also melts on the skin so it’s not thick or sticky.

I can say for the initial use it did a good job at keeping me dry. I didn’t have any odd or off-putting smell at the end of the day. I also didn’t smell like a warm cucumber or hot aloe gel.

Since my initial use, I’ve used it multiple times. I will say at times I feel that it may not help with wetness but it does wick moisture after a few minutes.

I know it sounds weird but I may feel a bit sweaty then later I notice my underarms are dry. I don’t notice much of a smell either when I sweat which is a big plus.

I loved that it was baking soda-free because I’ve learned in the past that baking soda and I don’t get along in a deodorant.

Final thoughts and where to buy

Final Thoughts

I liked the Tom’s of Maine Cucumber Aloe deodorant. The fact that it’s aluminum-free is great. I liked that gel stick texture and application. I didn’t have any staining on my shirts or any skin irritations. At the end of the day, the product rinsed off well and i wasn’t left with any off-putting or unwanted body odor.

Its effectiveness may vary by user and I think my body needs to adjust to it a bit more. I think with each use I may have better wetness protection. The aloe cucumber scent was airy and light. which i liked.

Where to buy

According to Tom’s of Main product page, the deodorant retails for around $8 USD.

I also found it sold in a twin pack on Amazon for around $15 USD (Price may vary).
