A few weeks back I was able to claim a free product for testing thanks to Try It Sampling. The product I selected was Paul Mitchell Clean Beauty Scalp Therapy Shampoo.
I’m always a bit wary about using shampoo without the partner conditioner because it can be hard to test the results with just one product.
But since it was free I figured I’d give it a try.
The product
The Paul Mitchell Clean Beauty Scalp Therapy Shampoo. Is stated to help soothe and replenish the scalp (the brand’s words not mine). As well as cleanse and refresh the scalp.
The bottle I was sent is 8.5 fl oz. It’s made of recycled plastic which is a plus.
The bottle has a slender design and doesn’t tip over when placed on a shelf or on the corner of a bathtub.
The shampoo has grapevine extract and chamomile. it is sulfate-free.
The bottle has a flip top with a wide mouth pour spout.
User experience
According to the directions on the bottle you are to use a small amount (rather vague if you ask me). You will also need to shake the bottle.
I found the shampoo to be a whitish shade and a bit runny. I don’t know if it had separated due to shipping temperature changes or if that’s the typical consistency.
You apply the shampoo to wet hair. I found that it’s taken me a few tries to get the proper amount for my hair length. At the time of using the product, I did have longer hair.
During my first use, I must have used too much because after my hair dried it felt a bit oily. A few washes later I found that if I made sure my hair was drenched and then applied the shampoo things worked out better. I will admit it can be easy to apply too much shampoo.
I found if you apply too much rinsing it out may take a bit longer than usual. I guess due to the oils in it the shampoo may make your hair slicker than usual.
The shampoo has a basic scent it’s floral but not too strong. When applying and working it into my scalp I did feel a slight tingle. Nothing too irritating but I thought I’d note that.
After about three uses this is what my hair looked like. I will note I did use a conditioner that I had on hand.
Is the shampoo worth it?
I would say it could be if you figured out how much shampoo to use. I did notice it softened my hair and did help with tangles. But again the tricky part is finding the right amount to use and making sure your hair is soaking wet.

Final thoughts and where to buy
Final thoughts
All in all Paul Mitchell Clean Beauty Scalp Therapy Shampoo did a good job at cleansing my scalp. It did give my scalp a tingly feeling. The shampoo is a bit runny at times and needs to be shaken. I felt that if my hair wasn’t wet enough it didn’t seem to rinse out fully.
I also had some oily residue as well. But as a whole, If I can get the application right I might finish the bottle. The product retails for around $28 USD. This isn’t something that I would have purchased myself but I’m glad I had the opportunity to try it.
Where to buy
You can purchase this product directly from Paul Mitchell or at a salon. I also found it sold on Amazon.
