I saw an interesting docuseries recently that I thought I’d share. This may serve as a cautionary tale for those of you who date online.
I had a program on my Showtime watch list for a while but finally got around to watching it. My mom watched it with me.
The docuseries is titled Love Fraud.
The program is 4 parts and shares stories of women who had been scammed by a con man. I won’t give a lot of the show away because you need to watch it to learn the full details of each woman’s case.
My mom was amazed at how quickly some people can be sweet-talked.
a cautionary tale
I think we have all come across posts where we see men and women have been taken for hundreds to thousands of dollars by their online partners. This happens more than we like to admit.
I’m not bashing online dating but it seems like there are more scammers on dating sites than legitimate daters.
That’s just my take on it.
But the point is still the same you never know who you will meet online.
This affects all ages and genders
Romance scams affect every age range and gender. If the person is out there to swindle you they will conform to fit your needs.
The one theme I did notice from the docuseries is that the conman has a type they were older middle-aged women who had been divorced or single for a while.
online dating sites aren’t responsible
I’ve seen this over and over again. When someone is scammed by someone via an online dating website the apps or sites don’t take responsibility for the users. Basically, you are on your own.
where to watch
You can find the docuseries via Showtime.
It’s available on Amazon via the showtime channel for a fee.
Or you can also find it via Paramount plus with Showtime.
You can also search for it and see a list of other providers as well.
