Let’s face it there are times we may end up with extra pillowcases. Be them old or new there are a few ways to repurpose them.
Use them for storage
I had some pillowcases that were in decent shape so I figured I’d use them for storing various items. I found them to be the perfect size for some of the placemats I use for photos. These also worked well for rolls of contact paper I use as well. Or you can create an all-in-one storage bag for your items.
These work great for soft placemats or foam-style ones. As well as for contact paper rolls or smaller rolls of rolled paper.
Other storage uses
You can also use old pillowcases to store extra sheets or towels. Then you’ll never have to deal with mismatched linens.
Repurposing pillowcases
DIY slipcover
Again if your pillowcases are in good shape you can use them as a slipcover. If you have a decorative pillow or another pillow you’d like to change the decor all you need to do is place it over the pillow and touch it into shape.

Granted you will probably be using a different color pillowcase and possibly a different shape pillow. But I covered a square decorative pillow with a white pillowcase as well as a longer rounded pillow. You will need to make sure your pillow fits snuggly into the case and if you need to trim it you can. You can also add Velcro fabric strips to create a closure if you don’t want to tuck it into place.
use them when taking photos
This is my biggest use for pillowcases. They add a nice touch to flat lay photos. They also work great to help colorful items pop if you use the right color.
Here are a few examples of my photos. I usually use white pillowcases because those are what I have on hand but I have used the peacock green ones in the past.
you can also use them as a background for smaller items as well if the product is upright.
create pet toys
If your pillowcases have seen better days you can always cut them up and make toys for your pets. Depending on the material you can make a tug/chew toy for your dog or a ball. You can find patterns for DIY pet toys online. If you are handy with a sewing machine or can sew you can make toys for your cat as well.
use them for cleaning
Again depending on the pillowcase material you can cut them up and make them into rags for cleaning. Or to use when painting or crafting.
use them for arts and crafts
If you are someone who crafts you can repurpose your pillowcase for a fabric craft. Or cut it into strips to use for a homemade windsock. You can even use the strips for a quilt or other sewing project.
repurposing ideas are endless
There are endless possibilities on how to repurpose an old or extra pillowcase.
