I’m not ashamed ot admit I’m very accident-prone. i can give myself a paper cut by just opening a letter. That being said I realized that it’s always a good idea to keep a few first aid essentials on hand for when cuts and scrapes happen.
The basics
Every first aid kit or whenever you store your supplies need these items.
*Note: please read all directions on products when treating wounds, scraps, and cuts. That way you know you are using the product correctly.
liquids to clean cuts and scrapes
We all know that cleaning a cut or scrape with soap and water is key. But sometimes you may want to take an extra step to make sure it’s fully clean.
Rubbing alcohol
I use this as an extra step to clean any cuts I may have. It burns like mad but it seems effective.
Hydrogen Peroxide
If you don’t have rubbing alcohol you can use hydrogen peroxide. This may not be as harsh to some and has many other uses as well.
If you don’t want the liquid form they also have wipes.
Other wound treatments
You can also use other products to treat your cuts or scrapes.
Povidone-Iodine Solution
Iodine can also be used to help treat cuts or scrapes. Some may be bluish or a purple shade. Some may also leave a skin on the would as well.
Anti-bacterial products
This is good to help coat a cut or scrape. Once again you will have to read all the directions to make sure you are using the product properly.
These may come in a gel/ointment or even a spray form. some may also have added pain relief or lidocaine.
Bandages
It doesn’t matter if you like name brand or store brand bandages they are always a must-have.
Liquid bandage
I personally love this stuff. They have a few forms of it but I’ve used the one you apply to the skin with a brush. I will admit depending on the depth of your cut the liquid bandage will burn a bit.
I’ve tried a few different brands and they all work well. This hardens over your cut or wound and adds a protective layer. I find it best to use with a bandage because when exposed to water it can begin to flake off.
bandages
I know everyone has their preferred brand of bandages. Let’s face it I think we all call them Band-aids. I like the variety packs because they offer different sizes of bandages.
You don’t have to break the bank when it comes to first aid essentials you can buy items when they are on sale. I hope this post was helpful. share some of your favorite first aid essentials in the comments below.
