We all know that laundry soap bars have been the rage on social media over the last few years. People show you how great they are for X cleaning needs.
I’ve used a few over the years but I recently was able to try the Fels-Naptha laundry soap bar. I tried it years ago and felt it worked okay.
Has that thought changed? Keep reading to find out.
What do laundry soap bars do?
Laundry soap bars can be used in combination with traditional laundry detergent. They can also be used to treat stains on clothing. If you use it as a stain remover you can let it sit for around 5 minutes before washing.
Always spot-test any clothing to make sure you don’t have any fading or color changes.
You can also use laundry soap bars to make your own homemade laundry detergent or for other cleaning around the house.
Fels-Naptha laundry soap bar
One of the well know soap bar brands is Fels-Naptha. They offer a large laundry soap bar that can be used directly on clothing or grated to use as a laundry aid or in homemade detergent.
I had tried it in the past but was able to review one recently.
The product
The Fels-Naptha laundry soap bar is wrapped in wax paper. You can use it directly on damp clothing or grate it to use it as a laundry aid.
I wasn’t able to find an ingredient list on Summit Brands website.
Putting Fels-Naptha to the test
The soap bars are easy to open. The only thing I found was that it may be best to keep a portion of it in the wrapper or use gloves when applying the soap to your clothing. The soap bar may irritate your hands.
The soap bar is a yellowish shade. It’s brick-shaped and is pretty easy to hold.
I used it on a pillowcase to see if it would remove some oil stains from it.
Don’t forget to spot-test your material before applying it to a stain. That way you don’t have any surprise fading or color changes.
I wet the pillowcase first then laid it flat and applied the soap bar to the fabric. I just ran it back and forth until I noticed a few suds.
you can rub the fabric together to try to get a deeper stain out. I let the pillowcase sit for a few minutes before washing it.
I used my regular laundry detergent with it and washed it as usual.
did it remove the stain?
I can say no it didn’t remove the stain. It also faded my pillowcase a bit. I forgot to take a picture once the pillowcases were dry. So I don’t have an end result picture.
But I can say my pillowcases are old and well worn so I’m not going to complain about the color changes or not getting the stain out.
Yet I would think even with a long-standing stain the Fels-Naptha bar would remove a bit of the stain but I guess that’s not the case.
a storage tip
Since I’d be keeping this Fels-Naptha soap bar on top of my washing machine in my garage I figured I’d share a storage tip.
I wrapped the exposed portion of the soap bar with plastic wrap and placed it in a plastic storage bag. This keeps it clean and might keep it from drying out due to temperature changes.

Final thoughts & where to buy
Final thoughts
Overall the Fels-Naptha laundry soap bar works well but I guess it works best on new stains. I liked that it didn’t have any noticeable scent. You will need to spot-test your clothing before trying to remove the stain.
The bar should last a while because a little goes a long way.
You can also grate this to use as a laundry booster.
The bar is easy to hold and apply to clothing. I just wish it would work better on older stains.
