Ladies let’s be honest I think we all wonder what some of our period products may have in them. No matter what type of product you use you still may wonder what chemicals are being placed near or in your body. I think we’ve all seen reports of products having high levels of pesticides (source ewg.org) or worse being moldy (source Huff Post).

All of that being said it may be up to you as a consumer to find a brand you like. Again this may be a trial and error process. Since we all have different needs and fits. Products may vary from your usual go-to brand as well. I was recently able to try a box of Rael organic pads here’s what I’ve learned.

What I noticed at first glance

I noticed that unlike the traditional product the packages may be smaller and offer a more compact design. The products (I use pads) were well packed. The wrappers are more of a gauze material. This cuts down on plastic waste. I liked that. I also noticed that the pads were packaged in a sealed bag. So if you wanted to recycle the box you could.

Upon further inspection

When I finally opened a pad I noticed that they were light. They offered a cotton weave cover. They were a standard size (I thought). They had tabs that were a bit small. Again I was comparing them to the usual product I use. Unlike Always or other brands the tabs seemed a bit small.

User Experience

Overall the pad stayed in place and worked as expected. Again if your someone who’s used to wearing ultra-thin pads the organic pads may be a bit thicker. This may vary from brand to brand. I’ve only used one brand so far so I can’t say if they are all like this. But for me, it wasn’t too bad. It moved with you and didn’t seem to bunch or buckle. They also kept me dry. I didn’t have any real issues with the pads.

What I learned

I learned that organic period products were quality. I’d read some reviews that weren’t the best. But again I think this may vary from user to user. I liked that the products are reasonably priced. The Rael box was around $6. So they are about average price for period products.

I liked that the product was soft. Let’s face it no one wants to use a rough or coarse feeling product. The absorbancy was good as well. I also like that the products cut down on plastic waste thanks to the gauze style wrapper.

Would I be willing to purchase organic period products again?
Yes, I would. I might buy a different brand next time to see how they vary from Rael.

Are organic period products better?
I can’t really say if they are or not. This may be up to you as a consumer to say if it is.
