If your worried if that text you were just sent could be a scam there’s a new tool to help you figure it out.
Let’s face it no one likes getting shady text messages. But it happens worse yet some seem to legitimate that youthink it’s from a major brand or shipping company.
My latest scam text message
Earlier this week I was sent a scam text messgae. It was a typical package scam text.
The text was sent from the following number: 1-506-7870972
It stated the following:
We attempted to deliver your package. Follow instructions: https://int-parcel-service.com
Scam text message
I knew this was a scam text message because I’d never heard of the international parcel service. Also I wasn’t expecting any packages so it made me a bit suspcious.
Testing out Norton Genie
I’d heard about Norton Genie and I had downloaded the app a few weeks ago. I hadn’t had a reason to use it until that exact moment. I figured I had nothing to lose and did just that.
Here is a video on how to use the app.
Norton genie is fairly accurate
I will admit this was my first time trying the product so I’m giving it a fair rating since it did find that the text I was sent was a scam. It offers info on how do you know it’s a scam?
You can also continue and click on a few other options such as if you’ve given any personal information. I hadn’t done any of these things so it was pretty much stating it was a scam.
You can also use images as well. I haven’t tried this yet but I assume it would anaylize the image as it would the scam text. For this you can upload a screenshot of an email or a test message.
I just tried it and it works well.
It’s free
Norton Genie is free and can be found in the Apple Store, Google Play or via desktop.
I think this would be great for everyone to use. If you have parent’s that are a bit tech savvy this would be helpful for them.
I liked that it’s app or desktop based. Both of them do the same thing.
Do you think this is a tool you’d use?
