Well, it’s Valentine’s Day… for those of you who are in a relationship that usually means gifts or dinner or something special. For those of us who are single, it’s just another plain old Friday. Don’t get me wrong I’m not bashing the day of love but sometimes it seems too forced.

I think when we’re younger Valentine’s Day seems fun and exciting. Now as a grownup I’m sort of like eh. Anyway here’s a few things I’ve noticed about Valentine’s Day.

jewelry ads abound

I always notice the increase in jewelry store ads during this time of year. Well after the usual holiday season. So it’s sort of a sign for those husbands or boyfriends to hop on the bandwagon because we need a new ring, pendant or fill in the blank.

The ads make it seem like that is every woman’s wish to have their boyfriend propose on Valentine’s Day. I for one don’t understand why people put so much pressure into making it a big thing.

Candy Galore

It seems like as soon a stores get rid of all their Christmas items Valentine’s day stuff shows up. I always find it funny when the seasonal aisles are half and half. It’s like 75% off whatever holiday items are left while Valentine’s day is slowly creeping along the shelf take over.

Don’t get me wrong i love candy but there is only so much I can eat. If you’ve even been given a huge box of Queen Anne Cordial Cherries or other types of assorted candies you know it can take a while to eat. I don’t think I want 5 cavities.

The horror of being single

When you think of today you usually think of couples cuddled together in a restaurant or the many viral proposals people will share.

For those of us who are single don’t feel bad. We can do whatever we like today. Personally I’m not a fan of being rushed through dinner or any meal on any holiday especially one as commercialized as this one. I for one would rather sit int bumper traffic then have to be taken out to dinner today.

It seems like being single for Valentine’s Day has become a crime. I’ve noticed this to be true if you’re over a certain age as well. Let’s be honest we all know someone who nitpicks us for still being single. The endless unasked for relationship advice is even worse. If i hear someone tell me “if you stop looking for love it will find you.” one more time i might scream.

All I can say is that we haven’t met the person we’re meant to be with for a reason. Yeah i know that sounds cheesy but it might be true.

all in all…

All in all… single or in a relationship we can find a way to enjoy Valentine’s Day. It doesn’t matter if you stay in or go out. You can find the little things that make the day special. Be it being able to binge-watch one of your favorite shows or trying out a new recipe. It’s up to you how you spend the day.

I for one will spend the day with Sophie and those I love.

Sophie

However, you chose to spend your day I hope you make it great.
