My mom had a fraud scare recently. I thought this was worth sharing.

It seems she had an international money transfer request to her banking institution. The request was for more than $2,000 USD. It was going to be transferred into Japanese Yen.

I shared a bit more in a video post on Instagram.

The previous post referenced in the post caption.

Thankfully the bank flagged and denied the transaction. But here’s the thing there are a lot of scams going around lately.

There are a lot of scam calls going around.

We had one today that was a robocall stating a charge of 299.39 USD was charged from a company named coastal at Wells Fargo. This is fake because I’ve had the call before. I find it odd because it’s to a cell number the bank doesn’t have. So it’s a scam.

Always contact your bank, credit card, or other businesses directly. Many have 1-800 customer service numbers. If you suspect fraud in your bank account you can walk into any local branch and talk to someone about it.

Don’t reply to any links in emails or text messages. Also, don’t give out any personal info if you are called regarding fraud.

something I overheard today

While I was at the bank today we overheard a lady sharing her scam story. From what I could tell she was caught up in the gift card scams.

That’s where someone buys gift cards for various amounts and then sends them to whomever they are directed to. This usually involves a few people.

Well, this poor lady was cleaned out. The scammers got into all her bank accounts and wiped her out. I assume she may have been involved in the fake check scams as well. Because she mentioned that she was told she’d be sent a $1,600 check.

As we know if things sound too good to be true or someone offers you a big payout for an easy job don’t fall for it.

I just wanted to share this will all of you so you can be vigilant and be on guard to make sure you aren’t a victim of fraud or scams or ID theft.
