As much as I complain about being single I can say this much there is an upside during the holidays.
What’s the upside?
For me, the upside is that I don’t have to divide my time between my family and another one. I also don’t have to shop for people fearing they might not like the gift. Let’s face it that’s a common reality.
I don’t have to sit in traffic (If the family lives out of town). I also don’t have to deal with awkwardness when it comes to spending time with new people.
One of the top things you may not have to worry about is the heightened anticipation of a possible engagement. For me, I’ve never understood that. Why do it during the holidays? Well besides the obvious your around your extended family so it will cut down on phone calls. But I’ve seen people be devastated by the lack of a proposal too. But I guess if that’s your holiday goal good for you.
Other pros of being single this time of year
You don’t have to wait for anyone. You can do what you like when you like. You don’t have work around anyone’s schedule unless it’s family or friend oriented. You also don’t have to deal with the holiday struggle of having to budget time for visits.
You don’t have to deal with family drama if you don’t want to. I come from a decent sized Mexican family there’s drama year-round but at times it seems that drama amps up around this time of year. I for one can only take so much drama at a time. If I find someone who has a family as drama-filled as mine I’ll go crazy.
Best of all you can stay in if you like. You don’t have to commit to anything you don’t want too.
So let’s rejoice
Let’s rejoice that we can be fine and dandy on our own. Yes, I will grumble and whine about not having someone in my life but at least for now I’m looking on the bright side of things. I’m glad I can spend time on my own and enjoy the holiday season.
2020 will be a new year and we never know what it will bring. But for now, let’s enjoy our time on our own.
