I’ve noticed a boom in pet-related health monitoring products over the past few years. I think it’s a good thing but sometimes it can be overwhelming as a pet owner.
Pet monitoring is growing
I’ve noticed that they have more pet monitoring products for cats lately. I know this is good because many times unlike dogs cats are harder to diagnose for certain health issues.
I’ve also noticed the rise in pet-related apps or products offering apps.
There are fitness trackers for dogs
I didn’t know they had fitness trackers for dogs. There seem to be a few brands out there.
I knew they had trackers you could add to their collar and you could keep track of how far they roamed. But never a product that monitored their overall activity levels.
Pitpat has a product that requires a subscription.
Fitbark has one that looks a bit cumbersome but you attach it to your dog’s collar.
Your dog can have a DNA test
There are many DNA or health-related tests you can purchase for your dog now. Some are similar to 23 and Me they offer pets DNA with health markers to look out for.
Wisdom Panel Breed Discovery has a variety of tests from Essential to Premium.
Embark has a few DNA tests as well.
You can check both pets gut microbiome
I noticed that Purina has launched a new product to help monitor your pet’s gut health.
Petivity Microbiome Analysis Kit allows you to collect a stool sample and send it in for analysis. You’re sent a follow-up report sharing recommendations for nutrition and supplements.
Cats have a bigger market it seems
I’ve seen a lot more health-monitoring products for cats lately.
Litter box health
Urinary health has gotten a big boost.
Petivity has a smart litter box monitor device. It can help track your cat’s litter box visits and alert you of any changes or concerns.
Color-changing litter and additives
I think we’ve all seen the Pretty Litter ads sharing about the product and how it changes color to help monitor your cat’s urinary tract health.
This is great but might be best for single-cat households. Also, it’s not cheap a bag runs around $24 and up depending on where you buy it.
Tidy Cats has a version of it that’s around the same price.
Color-changing litter additives
Arm & Hammer came out with a litter additive that allows you to have color-changing litter without the excessive cost.
The cats tested it a while ago. I purchased another bottle to test it again with a different litter.
Cats have DNA testing too
Basepaws has a variety of tests from DNA to Genome sequencing.
Wisdom Panel also has a DNA test as well.
Are all of these products needed?
This may be up to the consumer. It’s good to have options and the ability to keep track of your pet’s healthcare needs.
But let’s remember many of these products may be helpful in bringing concerns to your vet. On that note, these products aren’t to be a substitute for proper veterinary care.
Share your thoughts on these products.
