Well, it looks like there are more scams claiming to give you prizes or gifts from the clothing brand Shein going around social media.
I was tagged on Instagram again in one of these scams twice this week.
Again these tactics aren’t new but they do seem to be popping up again. So please take care when being contacted for these so-called giveaways.
The Tag
This was similar to my previous post from earlier this month.
I was tagged by a random profile stating I’d won a gift card.
Sounds great right? Only the trouble with that is I hadn’t entered a giveaway for a gift card to Shein.
😱Are you tagged in the photo?🇨🇦

The post itself features what looks like a screenshot from a Shein Haul video. I edited the post to cover the woman’s face. I also removed the Instagram handles as well.
The prize
So as the image suggested I viewed the tagger’s stories. In the prior scam, the site linked you straight to Shein.
This one linked you to a new site. When the page opens you see the following:
To reach more new customers, we are running a new promotion this season! Only the first 100 lucky participants receive valuable gift cards to the shoping at Shein.
Fake Shein giftcard site
Today the 13 April 2023, you have been drawn to participate in this contest.
Here’s what you need to do: answer the survey to improve our customer service and get a chance to win a gift card from CA$25 to CA$1500!
You will only have 2 minutes to answer this quiz!
Hurry up, the number of prizes is limited!
Did anyone else notice that the gift cards were in Canadian dollars?
It appears this profile was tagging random accounts so I assume they were from many different locations.
What I learned about the site
I did some quick digging to learn more about this website. So I visited one of my favorite sites Whois and looked up the site info.
The site is based out of Malaysia. This isn’t anything new since Shein is based in Asia but the site is run through a domain company based in Canada.
You can check out that Whois info here.
As I left the site open I noticed that a pop-up shared new winners who all happened to be based in Canada.
This isn’t a new scam
Last week I saw a post from a fellow blogger and friend. She claimed that she was tagged in a similar scam. It claimed you could win up to a $750 gift card. Yet all it did was give requests to fill out endless surveys or answer questions.
So this is just another tactic to have people give up some info or other phishing scheme.
What you can do to stop this
You can alert the brands that are being tagged in these fake giveaway scams. In this case, I would alert Shein.
You can also report these scams to the social media platform. Then block the tagger’s profile.
also get the word out and let people know this is going on. No one wants anyone to fall prey to these types of scams.
It not only makes the brand being scammed look bad it also causes the loss of trust in its customers.
