As many of you might know from posts if you follow me via my social sites. I’m a music lover. Well, I recently encountered a bit of a dilemma back in June. Well in may I happened to place my pre-order for the latest Nine Inch Nails EP Bad Witch. Well like with most things I didn’t think much of it and placed my order. Even Though the photo showed a record it allowed me to order an MP3. A week before the EP release date I had an email from UPS informing me that my item would be shipped soon. I figured I’d be getting a lyric booklet or something. Well lo and behold I ended up getting a record along with the MP3 download. Since I had placed a pre-order I didn’t realize it was a bundle set.
I will admit I’m old school I still like to buy CD’s I even still burn my own CD’s if i can’t buy one. I love streaming and digital music but I find something comforting about having a physical item to hold in my hands. That being said like with most things I’d been debating about getting a record player for a while now. So in a sense, this surprise delivery made me finally give in and buy one. Well, it had been years since I’d used a turntable. So I took a trip down my local Best Buy to try to find a turntable. After looking at the selection they had which was limited. I also might add the product boxes had no real helpful info on them either. I finally opted to pick up this one.
Victrola – Bluetooth Stereo Turntable
I liked that it came with its own built-in speakers. it also wasn’t going to require a lot of space. I also liked that it easy to carry around as well. It also offers a headphone jack along with an input jack on the player and output jack in the back of the player. it includes a power adaptor as well.
Here’s a screenshot of the connections I took via Best Buy’s website
The turntable itself is nice. It includes 3 needles in the box. the one attached along with 2 extra ones. They all include covers. A set of instructions and a plate protector. It also includes a 45 record adaptor as well. That’s a small disc made of plastic. The turntable has easy to use controls a power knob that also controls the volume and an in-line button that has the Bluetooth option. It also has an in-line jack so you can connect a speaker with an aux cable. As I mentioned before it also has a headphone jack too. The needle arm also has a locking lever to hold it in the cradle. It also has a lift lever so you can set it on the record. It also has a speed setting and an auto stop on and off switch.
Here’s a short video I posted via my personal Facebook page showing off the turntable in action.
Overall the sound quality is good on its own. If you happen to have headphones you can connect them to the jack You can also use a Bluetooth speaker if it has an aux cable. I’ve tried that and it works well. So far I can say it works great. I haven’t had any issue with it.
The only cons I see are the following:
If you have a larger record like I do it can be a bit tricky to line it up with the center spindle. The other con I found is that the Bluetooth option is a bit misleading. I thought I could connect a Bluetooth speaker to the player. When I tried it I noticed that the turntable stops spinning. Well after some research I found out that you can connect the turntable to a Bluetooth enabled device and use the speakers on the turntable to listen to music.
All in all this turntable fit my needs for now. It is easy to use. it’s a great starter turntable if you don’t want to break the bank.
