The hardship loan calls are back.
I had a new call earlier today.
This was a one-ring or possibly even a silent call. My cell phone rang once. the screen displayed Restricted. By the time I picked the phone up, the call had quickly gone to voice mail.
this isn’t a new scam
I’ve been sharing about this scam since the summer of 2022. I will admit the calls have changed in frequency. The callers have also changed.
You can check those posts out below.
The scam has changed over the year
It seems the scam has changed over the last year. Before I had repetitive calls from Marcus then another male caller and finally a female caller. They were all robo or computer voices.
The loan amount has changed as well. It started out as at up to 37 hundred dollars. Now it’s up to 38 hundred. The contact numbers have changed as well.
Today’s scam call came from the following number:
203-900-0428
The caller didn’t give a name (of course it wouldn’t it’s a robot). It just jumped right into the loan speech.
Here’s a video post I shared back in November of 2022.
Here is the most recent call video I posted
what’s the scam?
I think this is probably a phishing and ID theft scam.
The Hardship Loan office uses various call-back numbers. Originally they were to a 209 area code in Northern California. Then it switched to a 1-800 number and now it’s a 1-855 number.
I assume you would call back and talk to someone who would ask you for financial info then go from there.
What I found out about the phone numbers
The number that was given to call back which was 1-855-424-9762.
I couldn’t find anything about it except that it was similar to the Air BnB customer service number. Now for the number that called.
203-900-0428
The area code is from Connecticut. I also found it listed via Robokiller.
block and report
You can block and report these calls to your service provider and the FTC.
Get the word out and don’t fall for this scam.
