It appears the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) passed a new ruling last week.

They will be cracking down on fake reviews. From what I understood this will also include AI-created reviews.

I assume this may also include fake followers, likes, etc.

This ruling is a step in the right direction

I don’t know what took the FTC so long to do this. As we know there have been many fake reviews shared on various websites such as Amazon and others.

This will also prevent sites from only posting positive site or product reviews. I’ve noticed that many brands only post positive product reviews and never have any negative ones.

I don’t know about you but that always made me suspicious of the brand or product.

Goodbye social boosting sites

I don’t think all of the social boosting sites will disappear. By social boosting I mean the endless buy followers, likes, views, etc.

I have a feeling they might try to put another spin on it by saying they will help you monitor your analytics or social engagement.

How will this affect content creators?

I think this may affect those content creators who paid for followers and other metrics. If social platforms take this seriously we’ll see in the coming weeks.

It will be interesting to see the brands and big creators who have millions of followers. We’ll get to see the creator’s real numbers soon enough.

You will still need to post disclaimers on content be it a blog post, image, or video for products you were gifted or if it’s a sponsored post. The FTC has a free guide. The FTC has other resources as well.
