I’ve been seeing people joke on social media about the cat distribution system. Let me just say it’s all fun and games until it happens to you.

Yes it’s real

Yes, the cat distribution system is real. I can prove that for a fact. 22 years ago this month a little gray and white kitten showed up at my front door. Pal led to a long line of cat distribution system blessings over the years.

There isn’t a rhyme or reason to it. I had Pal show up at my front door. Other kittens Teddy, Sam, and Dylan were given to us to care for. This in turn led to us keeping them.

Sometimes cats come in singles or multiples. The cat distribution system may even strike you multiple times in one year.

It’s struck again at my house

Well, this year alone we lost 3 cats. Shadow, Sophie, and the cat that came to visit us, Sally. This year we added Leo, Cleo, and Olive.

October has proven to be a surprise month for the cat distribution system.

On October 5th my neighbor brought over a newborn kitten. It couldn’t have been 24 hours old. I had a flashback to when he brought us Winnie.

Stache and Papa Sam were at it again.

We knew Stache was pregnant but couldn’t catch her. It seemed Stache had abandoned this kitten. The saddest part was that it still had its placenta attached with the umbilical cord attached. I disinfected some scissors and trimmed the umbilical cord with the help of my neighbor.

The kitten was healthy and moving so that was a plus. It had been abandoned since Wednesday night. I don’t know how it survived.

but wait there’s more

We knew Stache was going to have more than one kitten. It turns out we found them on Saturday. She had stashed them in a safe place. Well, when we found them we needed to move them for their safety. I put on gloves and moved them to a box. We left it within sight and went about our day. I would periodically check on it. She didn’t come back. I went over to my neighbor and left the kittens with him because she likes his yard and has had her past litter there as well. He left the box in a safe place where she could come and grab her kittens. This went on for most of the day.

We saw her come into the yard but she left as soon as she heard the kittens. I had even shown her one earlier in the day and she ran off.

In short, we have 4 kittens that are now a week old. Two tuxies, one black one and a cream-colored one.

Here’s a reel I posted earlier this week.

At the time of filming the reel, we thought the kittens were 3 males and one female but now I’m not sure. we’ll have to wait and see. If you have ever cared for young kittens you know how much time it takes. So far these little ones have a fighting spirit.

Poor olive

Olive has been good with all this change. She has a bit of a cold but is on the mend. That being shared she can’t visit with the kittens which are her siblings. She does sit patiently on a chair watching my mom and me caring for them. She’s being a good big sister.

I’m thankful she didn’t display any signs of jealousy or aggression toward them. She does stop to look into the carrier they are in for now.

We’ve been making sure to give her extra love and cuddles.

never say never

After we took in Olive we decided that we wouldn’t get any more cats. We have enough as it is but it seems we keep getting blessed. It would be nice if my bank account was this blessed.

My mom just shook her head when she saw the new kittens. So I guess you should never say never.

The jokes about the cat distribution system are funny but when it happens to you it’s no laughing matter. Cats do bring joy and love into a home but they can also be a bit of a challenge when they are as young as these four kittens.

All jokes aside we will give these kittens love and care until we either keep them or find them a new home.
