I tried a number of shampoos over the years and I’ve noticed that some can help my hair. While others can make it worse. I tend to have dry hair. I also live in an area with very hard water so that can make it worse. for this post, I thought I’d share my experience using sulfate-free shampoos. For those of you who may not be familiar with Sulfates, you can check out read more here and here.
I’ve tried a few sulfate-free shampoos over the past few months. Granted I do switch back to traditional commercial brand shampoos between tests. I’ve noticed a big difference in my hair when I use traditional shampoos versus the sulfate-free ones. The sulfate-free ones make my hair smoother and softer. While some of the commercial shampoos make my hair almost crunchy. I know that every product you try has some adjustment period but sometimes I can tell with select products after the first few uses which will work best. Now with all of this out of the way lets get to the products.
The Shampoos
I thought I’d break them down by price point.
Under $15
Derma-E
Nourishing ShampooI loved this shampoo because it was very hydrating to my hair. You can check out my full video review below to learn more
Maple Holistics
I’ve tried a few Maple Holistics products over the last few years. I loved them because they were reasonably priced. Aside from being sulfate free, they could help with other conditions such as dandruff.
I tried the Tea tree oil shampoo, Argan oil shampoo and conditioner set, and the Sage shampoo. The Tea tree and Argan oil products retail for $11.95 USD each. The sage shampoo is $10.95 USD. I will admit it’s been a few years since I used the products so the packaging may have changed. I can still say I found that they all helped my hair in some way. You can check out my video posts below.
All the Maple Holistics products were very creamy and lathered well. They also had unique scents.
Shiny Leaf
I tried an Argan oil shampoo from Shiny leaf a few years back. It worked well and did leave my hair feeling softer. It also made my hair shinier. This one also claimed to help with hair loss. I can’t really say how well that worked but it did help my hair at that time. The Argan oil shampoo retails for $12.85 USD.

under $30
Living Proof
Living Proof wasn’t a brand that was familiar to me until recently. I requested a sample of their Triple Detox shampoo. I loved it. It didn’t strip my hair but it did leave it feeling clean and lighter. This shampoo would be good for someone who uses styling products. I found that if you try it at least once a week it may help your hair. You can read more on my thoughts by visiting my post here . Currently, it retails for $28.00 USD.
Under $50
R+Co
R+Co is the newest addition to my sulfate free hair care product testing. I recently was gifted a shampoo from them. The TELEVISION PERFECT HAIR SHAMPOO blew me away after the first use. My hair is silky and smooth. It’s easy to comb too. I noticed it didn’t break up my usual wave pattern either. It has a lovely scent and a small amount goes a long way. I’m hoping to have a video review up soon. I loved the creamy consistency of the shampoo. It coats your hair but doesn’t weight it down. Currently, the shampoo retails for $32.00 USD.

Somerfield
I recently tried Somerfield brand products. Their Berry Intense Shampoo and Conditioner was a sample I was able to try thanks to 08 Liter USA. I still have some of the products. I liked the quality of the conditioner and shampoo because they didn’t strip my hair. They also didn’t weigh my hair down. I found that it made my hair shiner as well. They currently retail in a set for $49.95 USD. Individually they are $34.95 USD for the shampoo and $44.95 USD for the conditioner.

Is sulfate-free Shampoo for me?
In the end, I’d say you will have to be your own judge. I can tell the difference as I mentioned in my opening when I switch back to traditional commercial brands. My hair seems to be drier and more frizzy. You can request shampoo samples to try them out before committing to a full sized product. I found this to be very helpful to me. I’ve learned that in my personal experience sulfate-free products have done wonders for my hair. It no longer feels heavy or crunchy. It also looks healthier too. You can always try to reach out to brands who make sulfate-free shampoo and ask if they provide samples to see if the brand is for you.
