Here’s a list of the items you will need if you decide to make soap. Most items you can find either online or at any craft or big box store. You can also use items you have at home too. I will say this much make sure that you only use the items for making soap. For example, if you are going to use the double boiler process or even microwave your soap to melt it make sure that bowl or heat safe cup is only used for that. The same goes for any spoons or spatulas you use are only used for that. As an FYI I was asked to make soap by a powdered mica (Evol) seller to show how their product can be used. Also, this is a new process for me too so we’ll be learning together.Â
Supplies
With that being said here’s the list of the items I purchased. you can buy these anywhere in store or online. Or use what you have at home.
A stainless steel or glass bowl (double boiler method) Along with another bowl to hold the water. Just remember it needs to be heat safe since you will be using it on the stove.
If you opt to melt your soap in the microwave you can use any heat safe cup or dish
A spatula or wooden spoon
Measuring spoons or cups
I picked up some plastic measuring spoons. You will need these to add your oil if you use one along with any type of essential oil scent you use.
Soap
I purchased this soap in a 2 lb block. Again this can be purchased at your local craft store or online.
Soap Mold
I happened to pick a soap mold at random. Since this will be my first time making soap i just picked a mold that looked good and was reasonably priced. For best results (from what i read) people suggest you use a silicone mold.
Fragrances, Oils and Colors
Once you melt your soap you can add any types of scents, added oils to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized. Along with any colors you’d like too. You can also add any types of exfoliants that you’d like as well.
The soap I will be making will be coffee scented and have coffee in it as an extra exfoliator. Once again these products can be purchased at your local craft store or online. Maybe even at your local big box store too.
Fragrances
As i mentioned above the fragrance I will be adding to my soap will coffee. You can add any type of scent you’d like. Just make sure that it is safe to use on the body.Â
Oils
You can buy soap that already contains a moisturizing skin conditioner in it. Such as Shea butter or even one that is Castile soap based which has olive oil in it. But the recipe Evol sent me asked for a specific formulation of soap which has goats milk in it.Â
It also allowed you to add Sweet Almond oil to your mixture.Â
Again I just picked one at random. I figured whatever I had left I can use for other skin care need.Â
Colors
You can use either liquid or powdered color. To be honest, since I am new to this I don’t really know what the difference is in bendability. I will find out when I make the soap I guess. I know this much for certain you mix it into the melted soap. That’s per the instructions.
Since I will be using the Evol powdered Mica colors that’s the item I purchased. It offers 20 colors in a variety of shades.Â
So that’s basically the entire list. In terms of exfoliants you can add what you like. As mentioned above I will be adding coffee to my soaps but you can add oatmeal or just leave it plain.
