As we all know email scams are nothing new. They have been around for years. Many you can spot as fake by the way they are written due to poor spelling or grammar. Others might look more convincing due to the brand logo being added.

The email I came across today wasn’t very convincing but I thought I’d share it anyway just in case someone thinks they are being sent something.

I was surprised when I saw this spam message earlier today in my blog emails spam folder. Again as you can see it’s not very legit. It doesn’t even have the brand logo to make it more convincing. For those of you who may not be familiar with the DHL logo wheres what it looks like.

I turned on the dark mode of my inbox to make it easier to read. You can see what the email looks like in light or standard mode too.

  • Zoho email DHL express scam dark mode mode
  • Zoho email DHL express scam light mode

As you can see in dark mode the text is blue. In the general light mode, it’s yellow and very hard to read against the white background. First of all, I knew it wasn’t a valid email because I don’t ship or order items using DHL. Obviously, if it landed in my spam folder it wasn’t going to be legit

The other thing that caught my eye was the attached file. I think we all know that if we are sent unsolicited emails we should not open the attached file. Besides that if DHL had the tracking number why would it need to be attached in a file.

Granted we can all see this isn’t a very well throughout scam email but still worth sharing. Even though it didn’t have the DHL logo i still reported it to them.

I just noticed that there is a section of text regarding the attachment stating that it has to be opened using a computer. I assume this will release a virus or malware.

attached file request to be opened by computer
watch out for virus or malware

I think we know that we shouldn’t reply back to these types of emails. We also know even if it doesn’t have the brand logo they probably aren’t legit. If you see this land in your general inbox spam it. If it’s in your spam folder just delete it. You can also report it to the brand or company if you feel the need too.

Again don’t open attached files or reply back. Besides that, I just thought I’d pass the message along about this scam being back again. Also if you haven’t ordered anything recently or know of an item being shipped to you by someone you know that should be a red flag too. So let’s stay vigilant and avoid these types of scams.

Another thing I might add before I finish is that even if the email does has the brand or company logo on it always read the email fully. You can also contact the brand or company directly if you think the email is fishy.

You can check out the FTC for some great info on scams.

Have you noticed any spam email scams making the rounds again?
