If you have a website there’s no doubt you’ve encountered your fair share of spam either comments, users, or even emails.
I tried a few different spam-blocking plugins for my WordPress site before opting to try Clean Talk.
what’s spam?
Spam can be classified as a number of things from someone posting a URL in your website’s comment section. Or having emails trying to sell you things or even trying to get you to sign up for unneeded services. Such as buying followers for social media. If you allow users to join a newsletter email list or even join your website. You may encounter spam accounts or sign-ups.
Merriam-Webster has a good definition of spam.
how to combat spam
There are several ways to combat spam but most times you may still have some end up on your website. Depending on your website hosting provider and the site software you use you may combat it to a point.
I use WordPress for my site and found that many plugins worked to a point but there was some spam that still ended up on my site. Mainly spam URLs posted in comments.
Cleant talk solved this problem
I signed up for Clean Talk a while ago and found it really reduced to even eliminated a lot of spam on my site.
The plugin is low-cost and offers other add-ons or bundled features (I’ll get to those shortly).
The plugin may take a bit of time to learn but I love it. I paid $12 USD for the plugin for a year and 6 months of coverage.
The plugin is easy to set up and helps eliminate the usage of several additional plugins. I didn’t have to use Google Recaptcha on forms anymore. You can keep it activated but it may not be necessary.
I like that the plugin stops spam instantly. It offers a map on the site’s dashboard to showcase where the spam has been blocked.
You can set up the anti-spam plugin to protect all forms and comments sections on your website. As well as validate email addresses for email list sign-ups. It also can be set to protect shop checkout forms too.
You can also set up a spam firewall too. I found that this cut down on my spam significantly. I still have a few spam sales emails but those are sent by a person so those may never be completely stopped.
But overall Clean Talk has seriously reduced spam on my site.
Clean Talk offers other services too
I signed up for Clean Talks Site security as well and love it. I had used a few programs I liked but there was always a conflict. I found WordFence was a bit too taxing on my Hosting provider’s servers. I even used WP Cerber Security until they were removed from WordPress.org’s plugin repository. So I figured i’d give Clean Talk a try.
Site Security by Clean Talk
Like the Anti-Spam plugin site security may take a bit to learn how to use. But it’s very effective. I loved that it offered many standard features for a much lower price than its competitors. I paid around $22 USD for a few-year plan.
The plugin offers brute force protection, malware scanner, firewall protection, and a few other features that are Clean Talk specific.
The thing I liked the best is that it allows you to block select countries from accessing your website. So if you notice a large spam attack from a selection country you can add it to a block countries list.
you can manually add the country or have Clean Talk security add it automatically.
Clean Talk offers other services as well
Clean Talk offers a few other services as well. They work with a few different website software as well.
I love that Clean Talk stopped a majority of my site spam and emails. It also helps validate email addresses. If you have users who sign up to use your website their emails will also be validated.
Their site security is very effective and includes a malware scanner. I liked that both products are reasonably priced. You can also bundle your plan as well. They offer single-site protection or multiple-site protection. I liked that you can pay for a few years of protection as well.
