• Dolphins are part of the family of whales that includes orcas and pilot whales.
• In order to breathe, they cannot be fully asleep. They have “solved” this by letting one half of their brain sleep at a time. They sleep about 8 hours a day this way.
• Orcas may live for 70 years or more. Bottlenose dolphins can live for at least forty years.
