Well, it seems that racism is alive and well. It’s currently making its rounds among social media and community apps.
It amazes me how awful people can be. Just because they feel powerful with a smartphone or a keyboard.
At least on social media, you can block people but on community apps such as Nextdoor, these people provide their full names. So you know Miss Jones from around the corner hates X people for Y reason.
Why so much hatred?
I understand that people are entitled to their own opinions but man some people go overboard. I was scrolling Nextdoor over the weekend you would have sworn people had lost their minds.
Over the weekend many areas had local protests to share their disapproval of the mass deportations. The one in my city was pretty peaceful. Of course, you get the idiots that decide to do donuts in the street but aside from that things were calm.
Nextdoor exploded with people complaining about the protests. You had the folks speaking their minds on why it shouldn’t be. Then again you had the wonderful folks who think whyte is right and chimed in with their two cents.
It amazes me how grown adults folks in their 50s or younger turn into grade schoolers. You have the users chiming in that they know what’s right for America.
All I’m saying is if you aren’t Native American or Indigenous we are all immigrants.
I’m part colonizer and colonized so all I can say is I don’t approve of what the orange menace is doing to America in any way.
Why drag Jesus into the fight
I saw several people try to drag god and Jesus into the racism fight. First of all, leave god out of it. If you are one of “those” Christians who love to throw god around to your convenience that’s not being very Christian of you. From what I remember from Sunday school God and Jesus loved everyone. So shouldn’t we?
I also don’t understand how quoting the bible will help their racist viewpoint.
So much misinformation
I saw a lot of misinformation as well in the protest comments. This one lady was ranting about Mexicans having rape trees. I was like what the fuck is this lady talking about.
I will admit anyone who has taken on the journey across the country is vulnerable to any type of attack. it is well known that some women have been assaulted coming to the US. But I’ve never heard of a rape tree.
I assume this is one of the ladies who dislikes all brown folks Mexican or not. She probably still likes Taco Tuesday and discount Margaritas though.
It’s sad to see Latinos turning on each other
As we know there are always those who feel that the orange menace is right. It hurts my heart when I see fellow Latinos who fell for this.
My thing is if you’re brown shame on you for supporting that man.
But to betray your roots especially if you are 1st or 2nd gen American. It’s like really your only one generation away from your home country.
back to racism for a minute
I’m boggled by the fact that people think they can just be blatant racist and think it’s okay. I understand many people may have a bias but to flat out tell someone to go back to their country.
That’s not okay.
I don’t want to go back to the days when we could only shop at certain stores or be admitted to select locations.
I remember a PBS documentary I saw years ago where they had a sign that read:
NO:
Dogs,
Indians Or
Mexicans allowed.
Here’s an example of one sign. Image source UMBC .
Please educate yourselves
Please take the time to educate yourselves. Learn the history of your state or your area. You can also look up things online for free.
Many cultures have been hated (for the lack of a better word.)
Knowing the facts can be useful when trying to shut down a hate-filled conversation.
