Let’s face it if you’re a cat owner and you use traditional clay clumping litter it can be a challenge to settle on one your cat likes.

Some litters are great while others might be messy or stick to your cat’s paws. So I thought I’d share Pal’s top 5 litter picks. We will add honorable mentions as well.

Cat litter ranges in grain size to type and even weight. So at times, it’s hard to find a cat litter that fits every need.

We have 3 litter boxes at my house two hooded and one open box. So trying to keep the odor down and litter tracking to a minimum is our biggest concern.

For this post, I’m going with the standards of odor control, tracking, and usage. By that, I mean how often I have to change the litter in the box or add more litter.

This post will also concentrate on traditional clay clumping litter. Not lightweight litter.

Dr. Elsey’s Paw Sensitive™ Litter

This litter isn’t super expensive and is sold in a box or bag depending on the retailer. This was a must for us when Teddy was younger. Now that he’s 2 he doesn’t seem as bothered with the litter we changed to.

This litter may also be great if you have older kittens 4 months and above. The litter is a small to medium grain depending on which package you buy. I noticed the one in the bag is a bit smaller in grain.

The litter is unscented but can be a tad dusty depending on which package you purchase.

Tidy Cat TIDY CARE COMFORT Litter

This was a litter I was able to try thanks to Fur Buddies earlier this year. It’s a finer-grain litter. I liked that it wasn’t very dusty.

I mixed it in with the litter that was already in the litter box. Sophie loved it. She didn’t have any issue with it. Being that she’s a senior cat I’m always trying to find better litter options for her so it doesn’t stick to her paws.

This is sold in a scented and unscented variety. We tested the unscented one.

Overall it clumped well and held up when scooped. I liked that it was easy to pick up as well.

You will have to visit the link provided to see where it may be found near you. Currently, it’s sold at Walmart and a few other locations.

I will note that since I did mix the litter with existing litter the chart below may be flawed.

Boxie Cat Pro litter

I was able to sample a free boxie cat product a few years back. I liked it. It wasn’t very dusty. It clumped well and was unscented.

It also was a medium grain litter. I liked that it clumped well and didn’t fall apart when you scooped it. It also helped combat odor well too.

I liked that the bag was easy to open and easy to empty.

Arm & hammer litters

The last two litters are Arm & Hammer ones. I had used Arm & Hammer for a while but stopped a few years ago because it was too messy.

Well, I recently went back and have found they are very effective. I like that they offer scented and unscented products. They also have minimal tracking as well. Best of all they are really great at odor control.

The litter is a small to medium grain depending on the litter. It also has flakes of baking soda mixed in as well.

The super scoop litter was great. I liked that it tracks minimally and it’s nearly dust free.

Honorable mentions

Some litters do deserve honorable mentions. I’ll post these below.

If you are looking for a natural clay litter that is scent-free. I’ve tried these two by Fresh Step and Tidy Cats.

The Fresh Step litter may track a bit more since it’s a larger grain litter. But it works okay at keeping odor down.

feel free to share your cat’s favorite litter in the comments below.

  1. My current go to for cat litter is World’s best cat litter unscented for multiple cats. Clumps well, good for about 3 weeks even though it says 30 days. Not dusty, some tracking, and flushable. Made out of corn.
