Okay I admit I’m a Facebook user. I mainly use it to share my blog posts and other stuff. I also have a personal account that I use to keep up with family and friends. I also play games sometimes too.

Well last year I noticed an odd rise in dating site posts. Be it an ad or a suggested page. I don’t usually put a lot of stock into those because I don’t feel it would be a good fit for me. I also don’t think I’d have any success.

I didn’t really pay much mind to the ads but after a while I get either annoyed with them or curious to learn more.

I shared a bit about a few ads in my internet ads vlog from 2019

I know facebook means well but….

I know that Facebook means well or is trying to gain more ad revenue. I side with the latter but honestly I don’t get the point of being bombarded with silly ads for oddly named dating sites.

Here’s an example of an ad i saw back in March.

Facebook ad for a dating site

The site that is mentioned in the ad is listed as Educated singles only. Well I did some research and this site seems to exist but it’s more of a referral site to another elite dating site. From the text associated with the ad poor “Jonathan” hasn’t had luck in the dating world.

He laments that he’s tired of games and wants to make a real connection. I’m paraphrasing here but it’s something to that effect. The caption also mentions that he’s an active bookworm.

Now that made me laugh because yes Facebook i’m into nerdy men who can’t afford shoes.

Other versions of “Jonathan”

like with most dating ads they have a few versions of their ideal partner (be it male of female). They also tend to use the same name for multiple posts. Some may change up the caption a bit. But this Educated Singles Only website seems to stick with the same one for these two posts.

This version of “Jonathan” has the same sad issues as the first but unlike the first photo he may be wearing shoes we don’t know. They also try to make him be more appealing for those who may not want a boyfriend who wears glasses.

Now this version of “Jonathan” looks like a suit model. He also has those creepy what I call dead eye look. Or if you will a deer in the headlights look. I don’t think I’d want to have a boyfriend that almost has a serial killer-esque gaze.

There was also a sporty version of “Jonathan” as well. I guess they are trying to appeal to all types of lifestyles.

it was a stock photo of some guy skydiving. It isn’t the photo below that’s just an example

I did some digging

After I saw the 2nd’ post I figured I’d do a little digging. The Facebook ad links you to their page (of course). The page is basic with no real info besides a few people rating the site low due to spam ads.

I did visit Educated Singles Only but it was a simple site that wanted you to include all your info before you could see anything. I used an old zip code and followed prompts until it asked for an email address.

During my research i found that the site is a referral site for another dating website named Elite singles. I have no idea there were so many websites that were separated by class. Again for me I didn’t feel the need or want to sign up for this non-sense.

If this Educated Singles Only site doesn’t even make an effort to change their caption on the photos of “Jonathan” I doubted they were very ethical. Again this is my opinion on what I’ve noticed from the ads and the very plain Facebook page.

When I mean plain it’s plain. There’s isn’t even a link to the website or contact info for the website. It’s basically listed as a community page that’s filled with stock photos of people in love. The community tab is just a few people commenting that they are looking for love or that dating sites are a scam.

When I noticed it was a referral site for other dating apps or sites. I figured that’s why they don’t have any real direct contact aside form the signup button on the ad. I guess once you fill out the info on their page it directs you to a site that may fit your needs. I’m only guessing here because i wasn’t going to give the site any of my real info just to find out.

What i did get out of these silly ads

One thing I did get out of these silly ads is a good laugh. During this uncertain time, something as silly as a dating site ad made me giggle. Honestly, the captions are so comical.

I hope this post gave you a good laugh. As far as Facebook ads go i’ll pass on the many versions of “Jonathan” and stay single for now.
