If you’re like me and you opted to expand your blog or website from a free service to a hosted service. You may have chosen to go with WordPress. When I mean WordPress I mean WordPress.org. If your interested in learning more about that process you can read this post.
For this post, I’m assuming you’re like me and are trying to navigate WordPress on your own. I chose to do this because I didn’t have the funds to pay for managed hosting. Honestly, for my small blog, I didn’t see a point in it. Again everyone is different but I thought I’d add that side note before we move on. If your not familiar with managed hosting this article might help.
Where to find help
There are so many places to find WordPress help. I figured I’d start with the basics. Aside from the usual Google or other platform searches, you can also visit a number of sources that can help.
Start at the Source
WordPress.org
WordPress has a few options for help when you are learning. I will admit some are very technical so if you’re not very fluent in tech-speak you will be left very confused. I know I have.
Even with that being said you can still learn a lot about the platform. It’s also your source for info. Their support page has many options to choose from when you are learning. You will need to create an account but more then likely you already have one if you’re using a WordPress site.
Your Hosting provider
Many of us don’t think about checking to see if our hosting provider has any type of help. Okay, I admit it maybe it’s just me but I didn’t think much about checking my hosting provider for help. I figured it was going to be help on their services, not necessarily WordPress too.
But some hosting providers to offer some great help options. I’ve been joining some webinars that Bluehost has been offering lately. I’ve learned a great deal. You can also check out their blog page for info on various topics as well. If your looking into hosting Bluehost is having a great deal some plants start as low as $2.95 a month.
So you may want to check out your hosting provider site to see if they offer similar WordPress tools or how to’s.
Other Sources
As I mentioned above you can search via Google or your search engine of choice for help with various WP issues. I’ve done this countless times. But one of the sources I’ve come to love over the last few months to about a year is the site listed below.
Websites
WP Beginner
I’ve found so many helpful articles from WP Beginner. The articles are easy to read and even break down harder to understand topics in simpler terms. If you clicked on the article I shared about managed hosting you’ll be directed to the site.
I stumbled upon WP Beginner during one of my many Goggle searches while I was trying to solve a problem. I have found other sites that are helpful as well but none are quite as user-friendly as WP Beginner. The simple design and doesn’t have a lot of distracting ads for the most part. They offer some insightful tips and tricks along with a wealth of info on various WP topics. They also offer help with commonly asked WP related topics such as SEO and others.
YouTube
Let’s face it there’s nothing better than someone who can walk you through your tech issue. Again like using a search engine YouTube can be helpful too. You can find many solutions to many WP problems via YouTube but some might not be detailed or they may even be in a different language (if your an English only speaker).
One of the channels I find helpful in many regards is once again WP Beginner. They have some great how-to videos and even walk you through the process of setting up many WP tools.
Lately, they have launched a new series that walks you through the process of setting up a WP site (example used is a blog) from start to finish. The presenter is very helpful and shows you tips and tricks that may help you through your WordPress journey.
It’s a long journey
It might be a long and confusing journey if you are like me trying to teach yourself how to use WordPress.org But once you get the hang of it things move more smoothly. It will always be a learning process and I hope some of these tips help you with your own WordPress journey.
