Now that the weather is warming up in many parts of the country we are faced with the challenge of trying to keep cool. We all know the basics such as oscillating fans and blackout curtains help. Also making sure that you have adequate insulation along with properly sealed windows does too.

But there are times that you need extra help. So I thought I’d share some products or tips that might help. Let’s start with the basics shall we.

Blackout curtains

You can find blackout curtains at many retail locations. I have ones I purchased from Amazon. I can say that they do a great job at keeping a room dark at night. I love them because I have a street light near my bedroom so it keeps a lot of that light out. For me I’ve found that the do keep my room a bit cooler during the summer.

Some blackout curtains have patterns such as this one

or they may also have thermal backing on them. This helps keep the heat out. Now for these types you may want to read all the info fully. For a while ones with thermal backing couldn’t be washed.

Also the thermal backing may make them a bit heavier as well. So you may want to make sure you have a sturdy curtain rod.

Oscillating fans

As we know oscillating fans come in different sizes and shapes. They also fit everyone’s budget range. I like them because they help get the heat out. If you place a fan near a window you can set it to push the heat out. I use that option. Also, a neat tip is to place a container with ice near your fan and have it give you a cooling effect. It works to a degree and it also helps keep moisture in the air if you’re in a drier climate (Like I do.)

If you have limited space a window fan may help. You will have to make sure it will fit your window size however.

Ceiling Fans

If you have the option or a larger budget a ceiling fan may be a better bet for you. Ceiling fans come in a variety of styles now and sizes. You can have the options of having a light or no light as well.

Low Profile Or Flush mount ceiling fans are ones that are attached to your ceiling. Again these can range in size and style options. They can range from 3 up to 5 blades. Usually the smaller fans are cheaper.

Here’s an example of a flush mount fan I have installed. It’s from the Hunter fan company. It was a Try It Sampling pr sample.

  • Crestfield fan installed
  • Crestfield Fan

This fan is 52 inches wide and included everything you need for installation in the box. It even included shorter pull chains and light bulbs as well. It has a few other color style options. It is also 3 speeds.

Downrod mount fans usually have a small extension rod so the fan isn’t so stuck to the ceiling. Like the flush mount fan, they have a variety of sizes and lighting options.

This VIOLA (Hunter) fan was also a sample from Try It. I haven’t installed it yet but will soon.

This fan also includes everything you need in the box. It also comes in a few different color options too.

These small fans would fit perfectly in a small room or a hallway.

AC units

Portable AC units

Now if you think you need more air circulation or even cooling a portable AC unit may fit your need. Or a window AC unit as well. The think I like about portable Ac units is that they can be stored easily that is if you have the space. You can also roll them around from room to room.

Many portable AC units come in a variety room size ranges. They are usually 200 sq ft and above. You will need to do your own research to see which one may fit your room cooling needs.

This Hisense portable AC unit was pr sample from Try it sampling.

  • Hisense portable AC unit
  • Hisense portable Ac unit
  • Portable AC unit

This portable AC unit comes with an exhaust hose you can attach to a window. It can fit a standard lift window or a slider window. It includes a remote control as well. I hope to have a more in-depth video review posted soon. You can learn more by visiting the link below

Window AC units

Window AC units can also help cool a large area. Again you will have to do your research on the correct size that will fit your needs. But If you have a window that can hold a unit here’s a few you can check out.

Window AC units will need to be supported when attached to a window. You will also need to cover them during the winter. Once again you can find the product that fits your needs.

Final Thoughts

No matter what options fits your budget the importance is that you manage to keep cool. I hope some of this information was helpful for all of you. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below on how you keep cool.
