Last night I came across an article outlining how to make a light box. Well I like to think of myself as being crafty. Seeing the step by step blog post I thought I can make one of these. Here is the original blog posting from Flax and Twine.

So this morning I went out and bought the only real thing I was missing which was poster board. So when I got home I set out to make my own light box. I had a box in mind and set to work.

As you can see ti had gathered my supples and was ready to start. I started by following the first steps outlines by the Flax and Twine I used an 11 inch by 19 inch box I had left over from an amazon delivery. I cut off the flaps.

Moving on to the next step I startd to cut out the sides of the box. This is where I rang into a problem. I hadn’t noticed how weak the box was until I started to cut out the sides.

The top was fine but once I got to the long side I noticed it wouldn’t hold up to well because it was starting to feel unsteady. So I only but a flap before i gave up. I had even taped the bottom inside flaps because they were moving around. Well that was my first attemp.

On the upside, my cats now have a box they can play in or hide in. I then went on the hunt for more sturdy box. Once I found it I started again.

This time I started with a US Postal box that I had. It’s
15 inch by 12 inch. once I cut the flaps this one seemed like it would work better because this one is corrugated.

Again I cut out the sides and everything seemed fine until I cut out the last side. I don’t know if I should have left the flaps on for more strength or if I cut too much out but I noticed that the sides were weak. So I stapled an extra support to the the sides and top and that seemed to help a little.

So far so good, right ? That’s what I thought . I took a white pillow case and used a seam ripper and opened it up. I then laid it on the box to test the size so I could cut the size of the material.

I cut the case to size and attached to the box with tape. I also cut the poster board to size so it would fit in the box.

This was the end result as you can see the top bowed downward and the side bowed outward. It wasn’t quite what I was expecting but all in all it did work.

Honestly after all of the frustration and annoyance of it not working out the way I wanted it to at least I tried.  If you attmept ot make a light box I hope it works out better then it did for me. for now I think I’m going to stick with my poster board and sheet in an effort to have better pictures of the products I review.
