As you all know for some strange reason my Instagram account is very active for random messages. Today I had a new one that I had to share. It seems these profiles are trying to direct message people under the guise of being someone famous. Granted at times it’s obvious that they aren’t who they claim to be but I thought I’d point that out.

These random messengers or as I like to call them Social Media Romeos have been a running topic but today I had to laugh. This person messaged me an ode to love so to speak. I’ll post a screenshot below.

a interesting yet long winded hello

As you can see from the screenshot typos are a dead giveaway of a con or scam accounts. The lack of a profile photo is as well. I found the message amusing. It’s funny how these random messengers think someone will fall for this.

I also find it odd that they instantly jump into the soulmate comments or uninvited comments about love or relationships. Another thing I’d like to add is when did Instagram become a dating site too? Did I miss that platform change?

I just happened to check this profile again and have noticed that the two photos the profile had were removed. So I’m guess this profile will be gone by the end of the day or very soon.

Getting back to my original comment about fake profiles trying to pass off as someone famous. I’ve noticed an upswing in this on many social media platforms now. Once again I’ve had messages from or been followed by fake accounts like these. I would suggest if you have this happen don’t follow back and don’t interact.

A few weeks ago I had a back and forth with an account trying to pass them off as a lead singer of a well known band. I knew that the profile wasn’t who they claimed to be. I alerted Instagram as well as the band. Thankfully the account was removed.

With so much happening online now we need to take greater care and just be vigilant.

How do you deal with random messages?
