Iβve been trying to be more eco-friendly over the last few years. So Iβve been using baking soda to clean. I stick with name brand usually but every once and a while I buy store brand. I mainly do this because itβs cheaper or because thatβs all I find when shopping.
I happened to find a simple homemade cleaner recipe a few years back. I donβt recall what website I found it from. But here it is
- ¼ cup liquid Castile soap
- 1 ¾ cup water
- 2 table spoons baking soda
- 8-10 drops of essential oils to kill bacteria and freshen. The creator of the recipe listed the followingΒ oils: Β lemon, tea tree, eucalyptus, lavenderΒ or orange
- Mix all ingredients in a 16 oz or larger spray bottle.
Personally, I mix the castileΒ soap, water and essential oil in the bottle. Then I add the baking soda to the whatever Iβm cleaning. Β I use peppermintΒ castile soap and tea tree oil. I also add a few drops of peppermintΒ oil to give it a fresher scent.Β
Getting back to the baking soda aspect again. As I mentioned I usually use name brand but like many of you know that can get expensive. So when I was at my local Target a few weeks ago I picked up the Market Pantry brand. I’ve used a few different Market Pantry products in the past and I liked them.Β
Well, this baking soda was not different. I found it to be a bit of a smoother texture versusΒ the usual name brand. It wasnβt as gritty either.
That being said I found that it was very easy to make into a paste and it wasnβt thick nor was it goopy.
as you can see once I added water it broke down quickly and didnβt clump up too much. I used can it clean my bathroom sink and my faucet. They both were cleaned with ease and I didnβt have any left over residue. it washed off smoothly.Β
I found it cleaned my toilet and bath tub well too. So, all in all, I was happy with this product. It worked as well as the name brand baking soda.Β
I had also used it on my skin as well and found it was less harsh on my skin as the name brand baking soda. Since itβs a finer consistency it seems to clean my skin well with out drying it out. I used it as a facial exfoliant and a body scrub.
