It’s International Cat Day.
I thought I’d share some fun cat fats.
20% of orange cats are female
I’ve learned that 20% of orange cats are female.
We had Sophie for 16 years and one month. When I told people she was an orange tabby they would be surprised she was a girl.
It was like she was a unicorn. She was very smart and sassy.

Siamese cats are a handful
Since having Teddy and now Bear I’ve learned a lot about Siamese cats. They are kind, cuddly and vocal. Yet they can be bad too. Both were white before they gained their coat colors. I read somewhere that it takes up to 2 years for a Siamese to gain its permanent coat pattern.
I also had Bowie who was a Siamese mix who passed in 2022 at 10 months old. I think he came back in Bear’s body. He’s sweet and loving but nosy.
Siamese come in different colors. Teddy is more of a blue while Bear is a Chocolate point. Their dad and grandpa T.J. ranged in color throughout the years. He was tan to chocolate brown (nearly black). When my neighbor went to sign him over to his new owner he told me he was fully black.
Bear is nosier than Teddy. He likes to know what’s going on and wants to be in the middle of things. Teddy is a bit more cautious.
Chewy has a great article about Siamese cats.
Tuxedo cats are funny
We’ve had a few Tuxies over the last few years. Ziggy, Dylan, Leo, and his sister Cleo. We’ve also cared for Ziggy’s mom Stache as well as Stache’s mom Boots.
Some Tuxies are a bit braver and bolder than others. Dylan is one of them. He likes to roam the neighborhood and comes home when he wants to. Ziggy on the other hand is more mellow he likes to hang out in my neighbor’s yard.
Ziggy is a big scaredy cat. I like to joke he’s 10 lbs of love and 100% fraidy cat. He’s also very chatty I think he gets that from his Siamese side.
Leo’s a lot like Ziggy he’s sweet and chatty but does get startled easily by loud sounds. (Blame the 4th of July.)
Cleo is a bit more independent and does her thing like Dylan.
You can check out this Pet Meds article about Tuxies to learn some neat facts.
Black cats are something else
I’ve owned 2 black cats in my life the late great Shadow and now Smokey. To be honest I think Shadow came back as Smokey. I say this because he shares lots of Shadow’s quality yet he’s a trouble maker too.
Black cats often get a bad rap. I don’t think this is far. They are loving and very caring. Yes, they can cause trouble but most of the time they are pretty calm.

I’m thankful for the cat that started it all
If it hadn’t been for that little gray and white ball of fluff that showed up at my door there would be a Life with Pal.
If Pal hadn’t chosen my house we wouldn’t be posting about International Cat Day or sharing all we know about cats.
He gave us nearly 18 years of joy.
Having a cat is a learning experience and a journey of love that is worth every moment.
Happy International Cat Day.
