Let me start off by saying I don’t personally use Temu. Please don’t get mad at me if you are a Temu user I’m not trying to offend anyone or make the app look bad. This is just my opinion.
But I have seen some posts lately that make me wonder about the app.
I know it was a big craze this summer. People were sharing Temu codes left and right hoping to gain more users to get store credit.
It spread like wildfire
I know when there is a new app it seems they spread like wildfire. Especially if it is available for both Android and IOS users. This seemed to be the case with Temu. I noticed that suddenly most if not all social media platforms were flooded with people’s referral codes or requests.
I’m not one to jump on the latest app bandwagon but boy did I have a number of requests to join.
It’s similar to Amazon and Wish.com
From what I saw browsing the website it’s similar to Amazon and maybe Wish. They sell products for ridiculously low prices. You can buy high-end skincare products for 50% off.
Like Amazon, they sell everything and almost anything. I just happened to see Bondage cuffs for $5. What’s the quality I don’t know but if that’s your kink Temu sells them.
From the sites Whois info they are a whole company based here in the US.
From the customer reviews it seems like items may be hit or miss. You can check out these customer reviews from Site Jabber, Trust Pilot, and the BBB.
Shipping maybe slow
From posts I’ve seen people share via social media shipping can take a while. Temu lists their shipping may take 6 to 20 days. I assume some of the slower shipping times may mean that the products are shipped directly from Asia.
They are eager for affiliates
I was sent two to three requests to join their affiliate marketing program over the summer. They work with one of the affiliate marketing platforms I am a part of.
I politely declined only to be sent the same email request a week later.
The Dark Side of Temu
Well, it seems like many shipping sites and apps there seems to be a growing concern about safety with the app.
I’ve seen a few news reports online discussing the app and possible malware rumors. Again I can’t verify these but I do have two posts I will share below. You can do your own research as well.
Here is a post from CBS News about Temu from July of this year.
I came across this Instagram reel sharing about possible malware rumors.
Here’s a post talking about Temu referrals having a dark turn.
There have been claims of personal data being sold on the dark web. A fellow content creator that I talk to on Instagram had that happen. Thankfully her bank caught it.
I’ve also come across a few news stories online where people claim they had fraudulent charges from the app for items they didn’t order.
is it worth it?
I don’t know if Temu is worth it or not. From the website, I didn’t see anything I really needed. Yet I would wonder if the products being sold for half price or at least deeply discounted were real. I’d wonder if some of the skincare products could be old or about ready to expire. That’s just my thought on it.
Is temu here to stay?
Personally, I think it will be here for a bit longer. But like most new app trends they tend to die down for a number of reasons.
All I can say is if you worry about privacy concerns don’t leave any linked credit cards or financial info saved in your account. You can also shop online versus the app.
Another thing is to have a security app on your phone. In the end, you’ll have to make the decision to use the app or not.
