Is it just me or is spelling and or proofreading a thing of the past. I happened to be out the other day at the grocery store and saw something that made me laugh.
I’m sorry I didn’t take a picture I forgot.
My dad was looking at sun hats and I looked at the sign.
The sign read:
For Customer Savety Please do not try on hats. Thank you.
I burst into laughter. I had my dad read the sign and he found the error funny.
I don’t know who forgot to double check the spelling but let’s just say the failed.
I’m not the worlds best speller but…
I’m not the worlds best speller but still at least have someone double check the signs before putting them out. I’ve spelled something so badly that even spellcheck couldn’t find the right anser.
I understand langurage barriers may also come into play. Or if the word is phonetically sounded out.
This isn’t the first sign error i’ve seen
A few months again I saw a sign for potatos at the same grocery store. Instead of having it listed as Idaho Potatoes it was Adaho potatoes. That one I gave a pass because I figured it was an error but again no one proof read the sign.
I’m surprised no one points out spelling errors
I’m surprised customers don’t point out the spelling errors. I also find it odd that no spelling errors are caught when the signs are printed.
But I guess I’m of the idea that everyone has spellecheck in the palm of their hand thanks to smartphones.
Has autocorrect made spelling worse?
I wonder if autocorrect has made us worse spellers. I can’t say but I do know that Grammarly likes to point out my spelling errors in emails and Word documents.
But I think things have changed over the years too. Technology is making writing and spelling slightly eaiser or at least simpler. But again we have to take into account language barriers or English as a second language speakers.
All i can say is i had a good laugh while i was at the grocery store.
