UPDATE 5/9.2022: since my creation of this video and previous blog post I’ve been contacted again by another profile with the same tactic.
I recently was tagged by a random account sharing that I’d been selected as a winner of a new iPhone 13. Here’s the thing I never entered a giveaway and the profile was clearly fake. The photo was of a girl holding an iPhone in one hand and a bill of sale for $2. I zoomed in on the photo to see the price. The post directed me to visit the us_promo_us1_13 profile to claim my prize. The us_promo_us1_13 is also clearly a scam it has 9 photos of the iPhone all posted on Feb. 18th, 2022. The link that the profile provides directs to a page that had the word hello on it. So as always be very cautious of these unsolicited prizes. Many links may add malware or other viruses to your phone. Or some may want you to provide personal info such as your address or request payment info. I reported both accounts to Instagram. The account that tagged me has been closed but the promo profile is still up.
