Any info cited for this post was found via a general online search.

I’ve had a call a few times now that I know is a robo-call. Yet it may sound like a real person to an older person.

The caller is a woman claiming to be calling about funeral expenses and how they may be 100% covered if you are age 50 or over.

Does this sound suspicious to anyone else? Yet I have a feeling if they contact a person who thinks this may be true they will give them their information.

The call

The call came from a local number. I answered it and instantly heard dead air on the line. After I said Hello? you hear a clicking sound then the woman says hello or introduces herself.

I found the exact call via this Youtube video.

The caller in the call for the video shared the woman states her name is Hannah Walker. On the call I had the woman said Katie Walker.

But the point is to catch you off guard. Being that it’s a robocall the speech is friendly and tries to get you to interact. For my call, it asked how I was before going into the sales pitch.

The sales pitch

Katie stated that I could qualify for 100% funeral expenses coverage. She mentioned that it was a state-approved insurance plan.

She then asked if you were between 50 and 80 years old.

If you say no the call ends.

If you say yes the call is forwarded to an agent.

How is this a scam?

This is a scam because as far as I know, no US states offer funeral coverage insurance. They also wouldn’t call to solicit clients either.

What do The scammers gain?

If you were to be sent to an insurance agent they will ask for your name, zip code, and date of birth. I assume they would ask for more information as the transaction goes on.

So this could be a phishing scam.

As with many robocalls, your call is forwarded to a call center that is located overseas.

A note on a similar scam

There is also a similar phone scam going around that offers the same services but is calling from Senior Benefits. I had received this call as well a few weeks back.

I found another Youtube video sharing about this call.

If you get this call

This call doesn’t leave a message so you would only know that it’s the funeral expenses call if you answer it.

You can hang up if you have this call. you can also try to block the number if that is available to you via your phone service provider.
