I found a very interesting direct message this morning. Like I’ve shared in the past I’m always getting some interesting messages.

Today’s message is no different and i know it’s a scam. I had noticed the person had followed me yesterday afternoon. I checked out the profile and noticed that it had a what could have been considered a female screen name or handle yet it was stated to be a mans account. The profile seemed new and only had 3 pictures none of the person who claimed to be the profile’s owner.

Now with all that out of the way let’s get to the message shall we. This morning when i woke up and turned on my phone I saw i had a DM request via Instagram. I didn’t give it much thought and went about my usual morning routine. When I got a chance to read the DM i laughed out loud.

The sender had kindly invited me to join the Illuminati. (i’ll get more to that shortly.) I found this funny because for starters I had always heard the Illuminati were more of a secret society. Why on earth would they go about trying to recruit strangers via social media platforms?

You can read more about the Illuminati from this Wikipedia page, and this BBC post. You can also search for some info on your own as well to see if you find any newer info.

The dm

The message was sent from an @CherryB.

why i think it’s a scam

As i mentioned earlier if the illuminati are such a secret society why would they go about direct messaging random people via social media?

In many scams I’ve seen Whats app seems to be the main source of contact outside of the platform they begin messaging on. Therefore I think the sender is trying to lure someone to Whats app for another reason possibly to ask for money or some other type of con.

I liked how they kept promoting that you’d become rich, powerful, and famous once you entered their brotherhood. You’d think that if the sender saw my profile the would know I’m not a man. Secondly, I have a feeling that the millions of dollars may entice some people to reply back.

what i find laughable

I find it funny that @CherryB. is so confident that i would reply due to their persuasive text. I found it laughable that they added the whats app number twice along with how famous and rich you will become once you join.

I also thought it was funny that the text made it seem like if you replied via Whats app you’d automatically become a member.

don’t be fooled

Don’t be fooled by these types of direct messages. As we know they aren’t real. I have a feeling as i said before the senders may want money or other info if you reply back via whats app.

Who knows maybe they will try to add some sort of malicious software to your phone (i’m not saying it will happen but it’s just where my mind goes).

But this direct message was just silly. As we know you probably won’t get 1.3 million dollars and become famous at the same time.

I’d advise to just report these accounts and delete the messages.
