I’m not gonna lie I’ve been an Amazon Prime member for a few years and don’t take advantage of some of the extras that are included with my subscription.
Yes, we know about the two shipping or in some cases now one-day shipping option Prime gives you. Let’s not forget the Prime Video that has a wide array of movies, shows, and documentaries.
Prime Pantry to me was one of the last things for me to try. I don’t really feel a need to order items when I can go around the corner to the grocery store but I figured it was worth trying at least once right?.
The ordering process
The overall ordering process is very simple and straight forward. You visit the Pantry page and place your order from there. I will say they do offer coupons and deals on the Pantry home page.
If you are an existing Prime member you qualify for free shipping ($5.99). You will need to order $35 or more. Also, the items must be an eligible Pantry item (whatever that means) to qualify for the free shipping offer.
When I ordered they had a discount happening to save 5% up to 15% when you purchased a set number of products. The discount was applied during checkout so was the free shipping and any other coupons I used.
I will admit I did like that I was able to stack offers. Again since this was my first time ordering I don’t know if this is possible with every order or some restrictions may apply.
Shipping may take up to 4 days
Shipping of your Prime Pantry order may take up to 4 days. This may vary on what types of items you purchase. It may also vary by availability too.
My order arrived
I waited two days before my order arrived.
The box they sent was large which i wasn’t surprised about.
I will admit my order will seem a bit random but it was basically things I needed.
Everything was packed well in the box. I didn’t buy anything that was threatened to be crushed so there was no extra packing material added to the box with the order. Now that I think about it I don’t even think i was sent a packing slip with my order either.
So as I mentioned i basically bought stuff I needed. Nothing exciting.
There are some Pros and Cons
Like with most things there are some pros and cons to Prime Pantry.
Pros:
You have access to a wide selection of products and you can order from anywhere.
They offer many name brand products as well as Amazon-branded products.
Free shipping if you’re a prime member.
Cons:
Not all products may be eligible for pantry orders.
Some brands or products may be limited.
Product sizes may also be limited or vary.
What I learned from using Prime Pantry
I can say that I didn’t see a big price difference between ordering my items via Amazon and purchasing them at the grocery store. There may have been a few cents difference on the coffee or maybe a dollar or two on the personal care products. But I didn’t see a drastic price difference.
I can say that the option is available and may come in handy for people who are very busy or may not have close access to a grocery store or drug store near them. I can also see how this would be helpful for an older person or if you have other issues that may limit your time out.
For me, this was more of a novelty. But I will admit if for some reason I couldn’t get out to the store yes I would use Prime Pantry.
All in all, it would have to depend on your need and if you think you’d use the service.
