I had an interesting experience recently while I was shopping at Amazon. I found an unexpected product pop-up in my search feed.

This may not always be a usual occurrence for many shoppers but I can say this much wording of your search may cause this to happen.

Phrasing/wording your search matters

Well, I learned that the way I phrase or word search matters. Granted if you are looking for a specific item you need to add details. Or you may search by type of product.

This is all fine but sometimes you might have a surprise in your search feed. This may be funny to some but others, may not like it.

I found it funny.

I learned my lesson

I happened to be looking for some O-rings for a windchime I made. Well, I was searching a few pages when I suddenly scroll down and see a product that is completely out of place.

I had a one of these things is not like the other moments. I did a double-take and laughed. Thankfully the product was a few pages into search and set towards the bottom of the list.

What did I find? Well, I’ll show you.

an unexpected find while searching amazon for a windchime product. I was searching for a windchime O-ring but found something else.
I was searching for a windchime O-ring but found something else.

Smack dab in between a windchime and supplies list there was a listing for an O-ring men’s thong. I’m not a prude by any means but still thought it was an oddly placed product.

I’m also happy I didn’t find any other type of O-ring products such as cock rings or something else.

So it’s surface to say I need to check my wording when searching Amazon.

Is this common?

I don’t know if it is. I’ve never had it happen until the other day. I wasn’t really surprised as I said because I was specifically looking for an O-ring. So I can see how Amazon’s algorithm would add it to a search list.
