As someone who loves to request free samples, I thought I’d share something I experienced recently.

I was sent an expired free sample.

The sample

I requested a free sample offer that I came across on Instagram a few weeks back. It was from a popular skincare brand. I’d tried other samples from this brand with no issues.

The sample arrived and like most of them, I leave them on my desk till I get a chance to try it.

The sample was an SPF 50 .

I used the product

Well, I used the product earlier this week. The small sample had a foil seal that needed to be broken to dispense the product. So I did that. I applied it to my face and went about my day.

The SPF worked well and didn’t cause me any adverse reactions. I liked that it left a slightly powdery feel to my face. But that’s nothing too annoying.

How I found out it was expired

I happened to move the tube yesterday morning and noticed the expiration date on the back. It was March 2023.

I understand some products can be used after their expiration date if it’s sealed. But when it comes to skincare you may not want to risk it.

This may depend on what other ingredients are in the product. This one basically SPF Zinc and titanium oxide with a few other ingredients mixed in.

I would say some products you don’t want to use after they expire are products with vitamin C. You may give yourself a slight burn or have skin redness and irritation.

I pose this question, dear readers

I pose this question to your dear readers:

How would you feel if you were sent a nearly 4-month-old expired skincare sample?

I’m not really upset but I will add that the package states to keep the SPF out of direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
