I was recently introduced to Icelandic Provisions. They have a very creamy yogurt named Skyr. I was able to try a free sample product thanks to Social Nature.
I’d had Greek yogurt and traditional yogurts in the past but never an Icelandic yogurt.
The product
I was able to try a free sample (thanks to a free product coupon) 15-gram (5.3 oz) container. This was perfect for a snack. it was very easy to open and included a plastic lid with a foil seal.
The yogurt was sold in vanilla and Strawberry lingonberry flavors. The coupon I had was for the strawberry lingonberry flavor.

Skyr (Pasteurized Low-Fat Milk, Live and Active Cultures), Fruit (Strawberries, Lingonberries), Cane Sugar, Natural Flavors, Pectin, Carob Bean Gum, Fruit and Vegetable Juice Concentrate (For Color).
ACTIVE CULTURES
Heirloom Skyr Cultures (Streptococcus Thermophilus Islandicusâ„¢), Lactobacillus Bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium.
It also includes 15 grams protein, 10 grams sugar, and 1.5% milk fat.
Not your typical yogurt
Unlike traditional or even most commercial yogurts you might be asking where’s the fruit? i know I was. This Skyr product was just flavored with berry. it also had nature (beet juice) for coloring. This was a bit of a surprise to me. It did have the berry flavor yet I was expecting to find small berry chunks in it.
How does it taste?
Overall the yogurt has a very dense yet creamy texture. it did have notes of berry. The strawberry flavoring was even with a touch of sweetness. The lingonberry was a little tart but it was a compliment to the strawberry.
The texture of the yogurt was also a bit dense. It wasn’t anything off-putting but it would hold a spoon up if you position it right. This is sort of a startling contrast from typical yogurts you may buy. It gave you a full flavor with every bite. It also was satisfying to eat. It allows you to savor the yogurt.
final thoughts and pricing
For me, this was a unique treat. They sell Skyr yogurt in small containers. I will say that the brand is eco-friendly. The outer waxed paper can be removed from the plastic container. I liked the Skyr yogurt I just wish it was sold in a larger container. These are great for snacks or to eat on the go. I’d be willing to purchase this product again in the future if I came across it.
