I wanted to wish all the wonderful women in my life a Happy International Women’s Day. I’d like to thank all of you who have taught, inspired and fought for me throughout the years. I have made so many wonderful friends throughout my life who have made a lasting impact on me. I have also had many strong and empowering women who have taught me so much as well. One of the most important things my mom has shown me is that you have to stand up for yourself. Not everyone is lucky enough to have someone help them or for a lack of a better word save them.
I was always told that I could do anything. I was never able to get away with playing cute or pretending I didn’t know how to do this or that so someone else would do it for me. I was also wasn’t allowed to use the excuse of “I’m a girl I can’t do that.” I’ve always done what I can and if I can’t I ask for help. I think this has allowed me to expand my thinking and my overall ability to understand life. I like to joke with my cousins that I’m not a girl in that regard because I wasn’t able to use my gender as an excuse.
This has also helped me to learn how to do simple home repairs to even learning how to remove a tile floor. That’s another thing my mom didn’t want me to be afraid of. She taught me how to think outside the box and that I might not always have a partner to depend on. I can say I’m glad I’ve learned these skills. I don’t always use them but when the need arises I will.
I’ve also learned a great deal from many of my friends. It doesn’t matter what life throws at them they get back up and keep going. No accomplishment big or small is ever overlooked either. Something as simple as me sharing something silly about my blog is celebrated as much as someone else getting a raise. I’d like to thank all of you who take the time out to listen to me no matter what the issue is even the drama fits. I’d also like to thank you all for being there for me when I needed you the most.
I’d also like to take the time out to everyone who has inspired me to be a better no matter what happens in our lives. Thanks to all the wonderful ladies I’ve met online as well who have shown me that friendship knows no distance.
So, in short, let’s celebrate the women we love and empower us in our lives today and every day.
