I think we are all familiar with Habitat for Humanity and the wonderful things the organization does to help others. For years I’d heard about their Restores. Well, I didn’t know we had a local store until a few years ago.

A little more info

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Habitat for Humanity Restore what they do is they sell gently used or sometimes new items. I will say this much most items are sold as is. So some may have dings scratches or other imperfections. Other times items are pristine in the box. My local store always has a wide variety of items. Sales from purchases go back to help Habitat for Humanity at a local level as well as a national one.

What you might find

I think products may depend on the stores’ location as well. My Restore has a wide selection at times. Ours is more centrally located near our downtown area. So you never know what you might find. I might not always make a purchase every trip but it’s still fun to go and look around to see what’s in stock.

They usually have various home products from lights to doors to glassware. Once again selection may vary by donations and store location. My store tends to have large influxes of furniture at times. They also have home decor items such as mirrors or pictures. To lighting and even tiles and bathroom vanities. They may also have paint, bathroom fixtures (Tubs, etc) or even large sliding glass doors.

Some unexpected finds

Once again you never know what you may find at a Restore. A few months back I saw a piano. I’ve also seen large scale fountains. I think theses were donated by a local hotel or business. I’ve also seen wall size mirrors and headboards. They even had some very nice craft carts a few weeks back.

They may also have seasonal items as well. I once bought a few glow sticks for Halloween for 50 cents each. I found a headboard a few years back for get this $10. I couldn’t pass up that deal. You can check out my DIY video below.

The most surprising find of all

one of the most surprising finds by for for me at my local Restore was fabric. I’ve posted a few finds I’ve shared via Instagram below.

I’m sorry but I couldn’t pass up the dark green fabric. The entire roll was only $25. When you find a similar style of fabric at the fabric store it’s pricey. I will admit I need to find some projects to use these for but just that i found quality items for a decent price made me happy. When I visited my Restore in April i saw they had some lovely upholstery fabric. It was a huge roll for a very discounted rate.

So if you have a local Habitat for Humanity Restore near you check them out. You may be surprised at what you find.
