I recently picked up two products from e.l.f cosmetics that I thought I’d share with all of you. I’d used e.l.f brushes in the past and to be honest I didn’t care for it much. It may have just been the brush that I purchased but it seemed like every time I used it I would end up with loose bristles on my face. So it’s safe to say that wasn’t the best first impression for me. In terms of their makeup line, I’d never purchased anything (that I can remember.)

The Products

MINERAL INFUSED FACE PRIMER

elf primer

This is the first e.l.f primer I’ve ever tried. It was reasonably priced and is sold in a pump style bottle.

The primer is clear as you’ll see below.

As far as the scent goes it has an interesting smell. It a faint odor of silicone. This may have to do with the processing. It wasn’t too overwhelming.

I will admit I may have used too much the first time I opened the package. When I rubbed the primer together in my hands it gave me a feeling similar to the lotions that give your skin a silicone barrier. I can say that it glided onto my face evenly. It didn’t cause any adverse reactions or make my skin itch.

I found that my makeup blended well with it. I didn’t notice any type of flaking or peeling. The only issues I noticed was around my usual problem areas such as the dry spots between my eyes or other blemishes I have this week.

On a side note, I had followed my usual morning skin care routine that morning.

I applied my makeup like I usually do but instead of finishing off with my regular powder foundation I opted to try…..

HIGH DEFINITION POWDER

elf HD powder

This setting powder is sold in

3 shades. Sheer (which is the one I bought) Soft Luminance, and Yellow.

As you can see the powder is in an interesting container. It includes a powder puff as well.

The package for the HD powder has a twist top that allows you to shake product out into the lid.

I will say that I wasn’t too sure of how much to apply to my face. It is sheer but then again it’s white so I didn’t want to look chalky when I was done. I will also note that the powder is a bit dusty so I don’t know if this shaker style dispenser is good for everyone.

I did apply about two powder brush swipes to my face. I blended it in well.

Here’s a photo that I took in natural sunlight so you can see the end result.

All in all, thought the sheer HD powder looked fine. I did, however, visit e.l.f’s website later to read some reviews. A few ladies had mentioned that they found that the HD powder had some flashback when taking photos in low light.

So I tested this out as well.

Flashback test

I didn’t really see any type of powdery cast to my face. All I noticed was the areas where I usually have shine.

By the end of the day, both products held up like I had expected.

Final photo

As you can see from the above photo my makeup held well. I was hot but I didn’t have any difference in my makeup melting or creasing.

Final thoughts

Being that this was my first time using both these products I can say that I was happy with them. I was glad i didn’t have any adverse skin reactions or irritation. I also didn’t find that the mineral infused primer or setting powder interfered with my other products in any way. When I washed my face at the end of the day I didn’t feel that my skin felt any different. I noticed that the primer did create a barrier of sorts on my skin but I didn’t feel that it changed the way my skin felt. It removed easily and when I woke up this morning (Thursday 5/10/2018) I didn’t feel my skin was dry.  The primer also let my skin breath too. I didn’t feel like I was wearing a mask either. The HD powder fit my needs as well. I didn’t feel that it made my skin itchy nor did I have any adverse side effects. I found that it blended well over my liquid foundation and kept everything in place.

I will be using both these products again. I hope to post a video sharing my thoughts after I use it a few more times.
