Now that summer is in full swing I thought I’d bring up the topic of sunscreen again. I posted about it last year. You can check out that post here. I should be the last person to share about sunscreen because nine times out of ten I forget to use it. I will admit I’m getting better at it.

Sunscreen is only a few things you can do to help protect your skin when you’re outdoors in the heat. Remember to wear light color and loose-fitting clothing. You can also use sunglasses or in my case, I have transition lenses that darken when I’m out.

Heres two examples of what I meant above

sunglasses atop a sun hat
sunglasses on top of a hat

me sporting the sunglasses and hat

If you’d like to learn more about the sunglasses you can watch my original video review here. As for the hat, I picked that up a few years ago at JC Penney. I found a similar style one on Amazon.

Now getting back to the topic at hand.

Sunscreen types

There are two types of sunscreen types chemical and mineral. Here are two articles I found on the topics of sunscreen you may like to check out. You can click here and here to learn more. Dermatologists suggest you purchase sun protection that offers both UVA and UVB spectrum rays. One tans you and the other one ages you. You can read more about that here.

There are also different types of sunscreen as well. By this I mean there are ones in stick, bar, lotion, spray or aerosol style sprays. Everyone has their preferred sunscreen product. I just thought I’d add that just for info. I’ve tried the spray and lotion types of sunscreen.

Chemical Sunscreens

Chemical sunscreens to me are usually traditional bands Youd find in many stores. No matter what type of sunscreen you use be it chemical or mineral they should have an SPF listing on them.

Here are a few that I’ve used and liked.

Kiss My Face Sun Spray Natural Sunscreen

I liked the Kiss My Face product because it was very easy to apply. It had an adjustable spray nozzle. The sunscreen was a bit more liquified then I was used too but once you rubbed it into the skin it was fine. I also liked that it wasn’t sticky or tacky. It also didn’t leave a white cast. I will say I only applied it once the day I used it so I did get a bit of a tan by the late afternoon.

Banana Boat Ultra Sport Sunscreen Lotion

Banana Boat is one of my go to brands. It’s effective and works if you apply it as recommended. You don’t have to worry about feeling greasy or oily with it. It absorbs fairly quickly into the skin. I don’t notice a white cast to my skin either.

COOLA Suncare Classic Sport Face SPF 50 Sunscreen

COOLA is a brand I was introduced to last year. I like this product because it’s lightweight. It’s more of a moisturizer but it’s still somewhat effective. It’s hydrating and didn’t clog my pores. I also found that it has a nice scent as well. You can check out my video review below

Being that it’s so light you may want to reapply this product more often.

Mineral Sunscreens

I’ve become more and more fond of Mineral Sunscreens because I’ve noticed that lately some of the Traditional sunscreens were giving me skin issues. I noticed that I was starting to have itching and irritation when using some chemical sunscreen products. I don’t know if this was an interaction due to aging or if it was an issue with a skincare product I was using. I haven’t had it lately but I just thought I’d share that.

Lapothicell – Natural Mineral Sun Protection Spf 50+ Pa++++

This Lapothicell product was a great addition to my suncare routine. It works well and smells like roses. I liked how well it applied and how quickly it absorbed into my skin. It didn’t leave a white cast on my skin either. I found that it didn’t have any interaction with my skincare or makeup either. You can check out my original video post below.

It’s a bit of a thicker formula but it spreads evenly and doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky or tacky.

Other Sunscreen options

Here are a few products you might like to look into. I haven’t tried them but thought they were worth sharing.

Derma-E

Derma-E now has a line of sunscreen. They offer both Chemical and Mineral varieties.

Which Sunscreen is best?

I think the sunscreen that works the best for you is the answer. As I mentioned above you will have to remember to reapply the product as directed for the maximum protection.

One last thing before I forget

Before I wanted to add don’t forget that your lips need to be protected from the sun as well. Many brands of lip balm have at least one SPF product. Here are a few that I wanted to add

Burt’s Bees 100% Natural All-Weather SPF15 Moisturizing Lip Balm, 2 Count

This lip balm is sold in various flavors.

eos Active Lip Balm Sphere – Pink Grapefruit | SPF 30 and Water Resistant

This product is sold in two varieties.
