Well, we’re heading into what will soon be the holiday shopping season again. And you know what that means don’t you? It means email scams will be in full swing. Granted email scams happen year around but there may be a higher chance of fraud during the holidays.
That being said I think we all order something from an online site so if you have a notice from many of the common shippers such as USPS, Fed Ex or USPS you can directly check your accounts if you have one or track your package via their systems.
The Email
There are many delivery scams going around but I thought I’d point out this one. I happened to have this one land in my spam folder today. These types of emails have been known to carry viruses and possibly malware.
The email does look legit to a point it was sent from a Fed Ex global
Here’s the text of the email
FedEx (R) Global
Pending delivery status: Expires After 72 hours A recent attempt to deliver your package failed Your address was incompletely provided at dispatch, we found your email address attached with this package. Please review this attachment from a computer  we have provided guidelines on how to schedule for a new delivery immediately, otherwise item will be returned after 72 hours. PLEASE REVIEW ATTACHMENT FROM A COMPUTER FedEx Express share documents securely. Learn more.  Thanks, FedEx Express |
Red Flags
If you haven’t ordered anything or aren’t expecting any deliveries you will find this odd. Secondly, the line that states you need to review attachment from a computer gets me.
The attachment was listed as Fed Ex Delivery you.img
As I mentioned above these emails are known to have viruses or malware. Possibly even both.
I also find it odd that you have 72 hours to reply or check the attachments before your package is returned. There is no order number or other tracking number attached to the message either.
Another thing I noticed from the email was that the Fed Ex logo states Fed Ex Global but the sender is Fed Ex Express. I understand they are all the same company but still, you’d think the logo would reflect that.
What not to do
Don’t open or click any attachments or links. if the message ends up in your general inbox spam the message or delete it.
What you can do
You can pass it along to Fed Ex by using the following email address. They will look into it.
You can check your shipper account if you have any concerns about a package being shipped back. If you have a Fed Ex, UPS, or USPS account you can track your shipments or packages there.
You can also reach out to the shipper and alert them via any help options they have.
If your wondering I did pass the email along to Fed Ex but Gmail alerted me that the email was halted due to the fact that it did have a virus attached.
